Wow. I didn't know they were voting on Alaska oil drilling in the Senate.

what irritates me most is that it's all for nothing...

they're wrecking a wildlife refuge for what they believe will be profitable, and "they acknowledge that even if ANWR's oil is tapped, it would have no impact on soaring oil prices and tight supplies. The first lease sales would not be issued until 2007, followed by development seven to 10 years later."

i was looking but unsuccessful in finding a place to explain how much crude oil is needed for a gallon of gasoline or heating oil. will 10.8 billion barrels be that much? if they're going to extract 1 million barrels a day, that makes it about three and a half years they'll be there, then they'll have nothing left?

NPR said it was about a 6-month supply.
