Firefox memory leak
Previous | Next by muhgcee 17 March, 2005 - 8:45 PM

Your pristine browser Firefox isn't as good as you may have thought it was. It seems to have major memory leak issues. Leave the same instance of Firefox open for too long, and watch your memory usuage go up and not come back down. Even after closing all tabs, memory usage stays high. The solution? Close and restart. Not very elegant afterall. That is not to say I am going back to IE.

after what time? i haven't had a problem leaving it open with GMail and my Yahoo for 8 hours or so

Even after having it open for only 8 hours or so, it was taking up 35MB more with just EA open than it was when I restarted it.

It has been written that this has been fixed in the latest Mozilla. It has also been writen that the fix will be mearged with Firefox at 1.1.

What I hate is the whole "yeah, like they didn't find this in testing" factor. I mean, I paid a lot of money for this browser.
