i think it's got the slashdot effect going right now, coupled with the digg effect....

working for me, albeit a bit slower than it was 30 minutes ago...
I like my slashdot subscription -- lets me see stories before they hit the regular main page, so I can see stuff pre-slashdot effect.

do you use digg? i don't know why i keep going's probably just because of the quantity of the stories that come through....most of the people that comment there are morons though.

Yeah I used digg for a while...but I just couldn't take it any more.

You're right - the quantity of stories is just great. And I don't even mind that the people commenting are morons. What annoys me is that the writing in the story summaries is so bad. If they had even just one editor, that person could fix the spelling and grammar on the stories that hit the front page, and make the site remarkably more readable.

Also, it would be nice if there was some sort of advanced algorithm that would track which stories you click on or digg, and custom tailor your front page based on that. I get pretty sick of a lot of the idiotic repetitiveness on that site.

they're making changes on Digg constantly (Kevin's blog is a source of this news), and i think they will move to a more moderated system soon. in the meantime, i get both digg & /. on my (i shit you not) 3 rss feeds - My Yahoo, Google home page & on my tablet, and i find it useful to check both, and never read the comments, ;)
