(There's an overall idea and theme behind this post that will be carried out and discussed outside of public sites as I don't want video game makers to steal my common sense and run with before I have a chance with some friends to try first.)
I'm so sick of the crap that's out there for cell phones now. I'm so frustrated with the graphics laden, funky control setup, and horrible camera control crap that Verizon wants you to pay $8+ on your cell phone. I know that the developers have to use an application language from Qualcomm called Brew but seriously, is there no good game developers left in this world? This is the perfect chance to bring back what helped bring the video game industry to life. The cell phone is a very low end computer device that should play games with content, not graphics.
There are too many casino games for the cell phone, there are too many EA sports games for the cell phone, there are too many racing games for the cell phone, and for the love of god if I see another remake of bejeweled with another name or Texas Hold'm for the cell phone I'm going to shoot...my cell phone. Now granted there are some decent games out there that I've enjoyed and felt that the money I've paid has been well spent. Golden Tee, Dirge of Cerberus, Monopoly Here and Now, and Caesar. Some of these games still fall in to the category of too much graphics and not enough content though. Golden Tee is fun and provides some extra goodies but the camera angle sucks as well as it feels as though the developers didn't put a lot of thought in to certain aspects of the game. Dirge of Cerberus was also fun but the content was server based and the camera angles were funky which drives me crazy on a one inch but less than one inch screen. What I'm getting at here is that the cell phone game market shouldn't be about dumbed down versions of the latest crap. Just you wait and see, there'll be a release of Halo 3 or Bioshock because it worked greart on main stream consoles and computers, why not on the cell phone. It should be about content driven games where you should want to play the game for more than a week because there's enough content there or revolving world that you just want to continue pushing through as well as provide some multiplayer challenge. Whether the challenges are results based posted somewhere for all to see or a consistent revolving system that works similiar to an MMO(insert some random game type initials here.)There needs to be a change in the industry before cell phones die in a blazing glory of popcap games hell. Someone or some people need to step up and create a ground breaking cell phone game that keeps people hooked and coming back and price it affectivly sot hat you don't feel like your waisting excess money but paying for a game/service that's worth every penny. And I guarentee the main stream companies aren't going to do this first.NOTE: There are many other cell phone games that I have played and most of them sucked but some of them were awesome. Not all of these games were mentioned in this post but if brought up can be discussed.
I don't want to play games on my phone for more then 10 minutes every month. If an idea is engaging enough to be worth more time than that, put it on my computer or console
i play solitaire for 5 minutes at a time, a few times a day, myself... it's no tetris, mind you, but it occupies my time for a while.
