So I was thinking about "gate rape"
Previous | Next by ben 22 November, 2010 - 8:05 PM

It was STILL in the news this morning on my way to work... how all these people are up in arms about either the pat downs or the scanner machines. It seems a little prudish & silly to me... it's not AT ALL like a human rights violation, and while it's a little annoying, and certainly childish and frightened on the part of the TSA (does that mean that the terrorists have won?), on the scale of Shit That's Really Important, it's like a 1.4, just ahead of "what kind of mustard to have on your hot dog".

That's why I'm proposing that, if you REALLY want to complain, have some fun with it! I suggest that the next time you fly, you go through the line in nothing but a speedo and some deck sandals. Let them search THAT... if they really want to. If you're going to be prudent, arrive wearing a pair of those breakaway track pants, which come off really easily.

double points if you film it, *1000 points if you get several people to do it WITH you...

Seriously, it's a funny thing to be up in arms about.

Actually, it is a violation of your rights, specifically the 4th amendment of the US Constitution. So there's that, plus the fact that the scanners may be hazardous to your health, performed by poorly trained personnel, and may not even work. Never mind the possibility that your junk may end up on the internet.

It's pretty serious -- and while I'm all for funny protests (personally I like the idea of writing secret messages to the agents in zinc oxide), all that's going to do make you a nulltarget of harassment by the TSA.

One of my coworkers has threatened that on our upcoming team trip to Las Vegas that he's going to wear a pair of loose sweatpants and pop a Cialis on the drive in so if he does get the pat-down that he can at least fully enjoy it.

What's funny is that they'll make you take off your deck sandals.

Yeah, there are certainly things to be more concerned about, I agree with you there. But I also second everything that jmcd303 said.

On our trip through SFO the other day, I simply asked if I had an option between the metal detector and the other thing. They said yes, so I went through the metal detector. Easy enough. Mags simply said opt out, because she was curious how invasive the pat down was haha
