A bit on HCI
Previous | Next by ben 19 July, 2011 - 1:17 PM

I am constantly (and more often than not, these days painfully) aware that human/computer interfaces are ever-evolving and our ability to adapt to these evolutions degrades over time (for more on this, read the inimitable Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, one of the best books on virtual reality & HCI out there, and in my opinion, one of the best books written in my life period.). So when I see something like this kid using a Novation Launchpad to play samples and rework them into a song, i'm pretty damn impressed, and also aware that while i COULD learn to play such an instrument (and believe you me, that's as much an instrument as a guitar or piano), it would be much harder for me with my more and more hardwired neurons than a younger person with their more pliable ones. When I'm 60, i MIGHT be able to use it as a phone, but texting? right out of the question...
