Version Control
Previous | Next by n0manarmy 23 May, 2012 - 9:18 AM

Any suggestions on a good version control application? I've got some coding projects going on at work and I want to setup a version control application that we can use either via web or through eclipse. The code will be mostly java but there might be something we have to work with a website. I've been playing with git and subversion but i'm having heartburn getting them setup on the ubuntu web server that I have running.

we use SVN at work, and for people that don't have a plugin for their IDE of choice, we use Tortoise which works right in the file system.

NB: I haven't set the system up, just used it...

I used SVN with SmartSVN at my last job. Many others used Tortoise. It got the job done.

I use Git at work (and for side projects) and have been super-happy with it -- though I haven't had to do much of the administration of any servers for the central repos. What kind of problems are you having with it? And what do you mean by getting it set up on the web server?

I think I've come to realize that I do not actually know how to use an SVN and it is not so much a matter of the app not working for me, but me not knowing WTF I am to do with the app.

I was looking for some magic bullet to throw code up on a web location that I could then use to control changes between myself and a few other people. I could do google code but this is an internal thing and I'm not quite sure what license I would use for google code.
