Babies as Bunnies
by adrienne at 30 April, 2004 - 10:31 AM
About 70% of the people I work with have baby pics of either their own or their grandkids with bunny ears on. They are so frickin' cute! I used to think that the baby-cum-furry look was played, but as I get older I find it more and more drool inducing. I just want to eat them all up! With ranch dressing!
I am becoming the body suburban.

So after spending time with Elfie I couldn't help but notice he mentioned this kind of..forumish chatty thing more than once. Not only that but went to it on my computer and told me to join and explained something about hits and google, which I...think I followed? ANYWAY- For some reason I'm thinking that I should know... possibly Ben? or something? See 'cause Elfie never told me anything about this site, just that I should go there and talk. Yes... Talk. Yes..and uhm..hmm... tis a nice site at that.

by adrienne at 28 April, 2004 - 9:57 AM
I was online yesterday, very bored, so I decided to take a look through the looking glass: I googled myself. It seems that anyone who has googled me would probably think a) I starve myself for science, b) I have been dead for a year.
There's only a few things, research papers with NIH and this blog, to credit my existence... and neither show any real activity since about a year ago. I need to publish something or there'll be no current proof of me.

Statistical Probabilities
by zen at 27 April, 2004 - 1:31 AM
So I was wandering around Arundel Mills mall when I came to a kiosk selling imported toys from Japan. I saw a Masterpiece Optimus Prime for $160 (I'd bought one previously for an even $100), but then I saw some World's Smallest Transformers. Pretty much exactly like the toys from the '80s (and being reissued today as collectors' items), except that they're about the size of, oh, my thumb. Or smaller. Kitchy.
I bought 4 @ $8.00 a pop.
They're packaged so that you don't know which figure you're buying, which leads to one having a hunter's mentality...some figures are 1:4 ratio (Optimus Prime, etc). Some are 1:48...why, oh why, out of my four, did I pull THREE Optimuseseses....????!!! Still, they're cute.

The guy there told us we could have them for $1 each. $86 is still more than we wanted to spend, but we agreed to split the price. Then at the register he cut the whole thing down to $30. *glee*

Dress Code
by Render at 23 April, 2004 - 10:22 AM
"... if parents can't do their job [...] then there should be a law."

This was said by Louisiana State Representative Derrick Shepherd. The job he was referring to ... preventing kids from wearing low-slung pants. Yes, pants.

"I'm sick of seeing it," said Shepherd. And since he's sick of it, then "it" must be morally wrong (remember the visceral response thing? If it makes you feel bad, it must be bad.) And since it is morally wrong, parents have a responsibility to prevent it. And since they aren't, then it's obviously up to the gub'mint to do it.

In effect, he wants a state dress code, violation of which would be punishable by $500 fine and/or 6 months in jail. JAIL! For committing the obscenity of wearing pants that expose less flesh than you can see at any beach or pool.

Tax dollars at work.

The Draft
by Casey at 21 April, 2004 - 2:42 PM
I think we're on to something here...

SEN. CHUCK HAGEL (R-NE), March 15, 2003 on The Novak Zone: Interview With Chuck Hagel
NOVAK: Congressman Charlie Rangel, [...] has called for a draft to replace the all-volunteer force. [...]
HAGEL: [...]I would not favor going back to a draft.

SEN. CHUCK HAGEL (R-NE), April 20, 2004 as reported by AFP
"Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear some responsibility and pay some price?" Hagel said, arguing that restoring compulsory military service would force "our citizens to understand the intensity and depth of challenges we face."

Hagel and Rangel are two of a small handful of senators and house members who were enlisted in Vietnam. It makes me wonder if the white house might be cutting political deals in return for legislative support for a draft from people with the credibility to do so.

If you score over 21 points, you are classed as having a great sex experience. If you score between 14 points and 21 points, you are in need of more love. You may begin... now!

And drinks were served by wenches, fat ones with all their fat pushed up and out by these pleather corsets. They were hot. The upstairs had wickd German techno and the screens were full of KillBill Vol 1, with Blade superimposed, and all of it was backwards. There was also an outdoor section with people dancing funny.
I imagine that this is what the Orifice would look like if the owner had more funds, a larger crowd, better music, and some muther-f'in imagination.

Military Draft: Spring 2005
by Dark_Knight at 19 April, 2004 - 10:08 AM
I'm glad I'm too old.

I had heard some rumors from some close connections with the "Fed" (Federal Government) and learned of two bills [one in the house, one in the senate] that are being secretely pushed through to re-enact the draft.

here is a good presentation of the materials I have found.

The way I see it, we are gearing up with possible confrontation with North Korea. Dont believe me? check this out.

here is another in case that one doesnt work.

Cliff notes:
US plans to re-enact the mandatory draft in Spring 2005

Bush NOR kerry will speak of this until after the election. Both support it. If one didnt support it, it would have allready become an election topic.

Congress has given some 28 million in funds to the SSS (selective service system) for next year (Up 3 million roughly) Also, has begun hiring excessive amounts of draft boardsman. (people that actually pull the names from the hat)

We are currently removing our soldiers from duty in the DMZ in korea.

Anyone else have any news of this? Pretty wicked. If it gets on the news, and it looks like it will pass and be re-enacted.... I wont run like some of you cowards. Ill go sign up for a service that I could use my skills on. (Information Technology) Probably Airforce of Coast Gaurd.

Anyways, I dont think this is a Bush VS Kerry debate. So lets not turn it into one. This would clearly be a necessity for both sides, especially if Korea Heat up.

Pac-Man Vs. has got to be one of the best and most fun multiplayer console games I've played in a long time. Perhaps the most ingenious due to its innovativeness and simplicity.

Cheap, reliable source for Smokes
by jay at 16 April, 2004 - 8:04 AM
I've been getting my cigs from a website lately (for 4 months). I don't know how many of you are smokers, but at $13 or $14 a carton, if you smoke, you know thats extremely cheap. They come from Switzerland, and carry all major brands and types. I have been smoking the Euro-Camel Lights. They are smoother than the US ones, and have half the tar (all info you can find on the site itself). The carry Euro-brands and US-brands. I just want to share the love. (They have cigars and wine too)

Mac dock question
by muhgcee at 16 April, 2004 - 6:20 AM
So I am using a Mac at work (and I am loving it). It is using Mac OS 10.2.something. I currently have the dock at the bottom, hiding (as in, when I mouse over it comes up.) I did this because otherwise if I maximize a window, I couldn't click on stuff at the bottom because the window was under the dock. But, sometimes the little bouncy icons don't bounce because it is hidden. What I would like to do is stick the dock on the left, but not in the middle (not good for window placement). Anyone know how I can stick it on the left side (vertically), but starting at the bottom of the screen? I think this would allow me to unhide the dock and not have it get in the way of other windows.

More Nice Pomes

It's been years since I've read this...I forgot how much Shel Silverstein rocks.

Inside everybody's nose
There lives a sharp-toothed snail.
So if you stick your finger in,
He may bite off your nail.
Stick it farther up inside,
And he may bite your ring off.
Stick it all the way, and he
May bite the whole darn thing off.

Bill Gates, philanthropist..
by pyrex at 15 April, 2004 - 6:39 AM
.. but no blogger.

Seems like we're not the only ones getting confused comments (see the Hey Ya Charlie Brown! thread) from people thinking we have some direct link to the stuff we post about. Deane Barker of Gadgetopia wrote this brief post about the Gates couple's charitable nature. Apparently a lot of people thought he was Bill Gates, and the post recieved a lot of comments from people asking for money for various causes. Quite an entertaining read.

"Critical" Update
by muhgcee at 13 April, 2004 - 1:42 PM
It appears that a swastika has been found in one of Microsoft's fonts. Using the "Bookshelf Symbol 7" font, typing the "~" key (upper left of keyboard) reveals one of the swastikas (there are two). For a Bookshelf Symbol 7 font list, go here. What irks me, though, is that this is deemed a critical update by Microsoft. As if it gives Nazis free reign on my computer . . . Knowledge Base article

If, when you are logged in, you have never BEEN to the details page for a post, the front page will have a bit of a problem... the simple fix for this is as follows. go to the latest post, use the previous button (located just above the subject on the left) to go back through about 10 posts - should only take a minute even on dialup... this will get rid of the problem long enough for me to have a solution by end of the day tomorrow... happy day

Err, well, I HAD a dream anyway... that Rich was getting married, but for some reason I wasn't invited to the ceremony, just the reception, but someone had drugged Rich as a prank (it was you, wasn't it Ben) and he was passed out when he was supposed to go to the ceremony, so I had to wake him up and get him there, so I ended up at the ceremony anyway, and I was sitting next to this girl who reminded me of that Texas girl I used to date, except the girl I was sitting next to was blonde, and she mentioned Rich's bride's name and it was Katie, and I was like "Katie Spadone?" and she said yes, but you don't know a Katie Spadone, do you Rich, though I'm not completely sure that's how you spell it, and I couldn't find her on Google, but in case you ever meet her, just remember, she was my elementary school girlfriend when we were like 9.

Ahem, yeah I think I need more caffeine this morning... or maybe less.

The mission: Once a pilot locks onto a MIG encumbered in this fashion, it’s up to his wingman to engage the bogey and remove her from the theater of operation. Feigning interest—buying her drinks, laughing at her stupid jokes, offering to read her hoof—may suffice to pull her aside,...

The place where I'm temping today has a pond in the back of the building where people smoke, and since I smoke this is where I've been most of the day. I noticed that around the open ashtray is scat from the birds in the pond and a lightbulb went off: the stoopid ducks have been sitting on the edge of the ashtray and eating the butts. This could be dangerous to their stoopid little duckie intestinal systems. I've lodged a notice.
