I'm sure some of you know that I was (am) involved in a bit of a business where I wrote some awesome software but because I was under the employ of the sellers of said software at the time, I was lucky to receive even a fraction of a percentage of ownership.
So... here's the new situation. I am starting a new business partnership (not with the same company) where I am 100% writing and maintaining updates to the software and someone else (a company of about 3 people) is going to sell the software, buy and sell the hardware that it runs on, and provide support and other services to the customers (some customers will provide their own hardware).
This is not a work-for-hire. I will receive a percentage of every sale of the software. The question is... what is a fair percentage? Neither of us has experience in this sort of partnership and neither of us wants to shortchange the other (or ourselves).

So, since Ben got his bike from Craigslist I've been thinking....over the past 3 or 4 years, I've been pretty lucky with CL as well. I've decided to make a list of the things that I've gotten from there...feel free to add to the list.
Here goes:

via /.: I think this is pretty damn impressive too. Geotag your flickr photos simply and quickly... i think Yahoo! is really starting to create some strong new apps to compete with Google.
This is what I like about competition in the web space... it's driving more products to the end user, and one of the strongest driving forces is usability. Granted, this site isn't the best at it, but i'm also not licensing out the software, hehehe

so it looks like the new version of windows should be out as early as today...
personally, i don't know anyone here who would be rushing to get it, so maybe i will... i think i'll try it out on the box in the living room... why not?
if you're interested, here's where to register to get it, though it costs $9.94 to get the discs, and it will arrive as soon as they're released.

In Javascript, how do I get the current width of the page in a way that will work in both IE and FF? document.width works in FF, but not in IE.
For bonus points, how do I get the width of a div while it's hidden? obj.offsetWidth only works when the div is visible. Note that I have set a specific width for the div in the stylesheet.

"The truck driver had stopped to help a lady with a [stalled] vehicle," Mr. Ruefly recalled. "The trailer was half on the shoulder, half in the right lane. Its lights were off. I switched lanes at 55 mph. I never even saw it. The next thing I know, I'm in the back seat of my truck, and the engine is in the front seat."
With his hip shattered and truck destroyed, Mr. Ruefly had to endure one more parting shot from the bridge.
"As the ambulance starts to leave, we get a few feet, then we have to stop again because the drawbridge opened up," he said with a chuckle. "We had to wait almost an half-hour before they could get me to shock trauma. But that's typical of the Wilson Bridge."

I am currently half-intentionally unemployed. I say half intentionally because I was rather picky about some jobs that I didn't go for, and narrowly missed three that would have been sweet.
So I decided to take a few months off to get my CCNP so that the next time around I will have a better chance of getting the sweet job that I want.
Anyway, all is going pretty well so far as far as the studying goes. It would be going more pretty well if I could concentrate better. I was trying to think today about ways to increase my attention span. Here's what I have thought of so far, and I would appreciate your comments on your experiences with these things in improving your concentration:
- vitamins
- energy drinks
- exercise in the morning
Except for today, I have at least used a good environment for studying - mostly libraries and sometimes coffee shops.
We study so much in our lives, especially in college, that it is surprising to me that there is so little said about how to study effectively. I mean, you never really see any studies out there on how to study better. Maybe the scientists got side-tracked.

Copy/paste from my site. Read full text for pictures.
I read about a Zombie flash mob happening today at Powell and Market streets here in San Francisco. I didn't have anything to do today until later, so I thought I might as well hop on the 45 and check it out.
I got there 5 minutes before the mayhem broke out. I was surprised by the amount of zombies that showed up. Great fun.

Happy Birthday, Ben. I was going to call you, but decided that I'd share my knowledge of your birthday with the world.
Oh, since this site is oh so very "Web 2.0", I did a GIS for "web 2.0 balloons". I think that you'll agree that what I found was a good birthday present.
Happy birthday, man.

Someone should totally do this and film the reactions.
You get some vaguely/slightly futuristic-looking clothes. Make it plausible, somewhat based on current trends, you're probably aiming for maybe ten years in the future. You can most likely make do with an interesting combination of whatever clothes you currently own. For emphasis, make a fake tour T-shirt for a band that doesn't exist and mark it "Wold Tour 2008" or something. The point is to make it look plausible that you might come from the future.
Then just run out into the street, select somebody at random and shout at them, "What's the date today?! Quickly, tell me!"
When they respond, you shout, "What YEAR, man, what YEAR is this?!"
And when they respond again you go, "Noooo! They've sent me back too far!" or "I'm too late! It's all going to happen again!"
Then you run away again.

What does the "H" mean when people say "Jesus H. Christ".
Was that his middle name? Does it indemnify one for using the lords name in vain, or does it excentuate the the vainness? What is going on here?
I want to know. I demand to know.

I am going to call into adobe on this problem too but figured I would see if anyone here knows or has trun into this:
From time to time, through both Captivate and FLash 8 I have seen instances upon publishing that some audio clips imported into a slide(captivate) or timeline(flash) will sound muffled. This only happens occasionally and usually what I have done in the past to get things to work out has been:
1. restart the computer
2. delete the audioand slide and then reimport the audio on the timeline/slide
3. drink
I first had this happen to me using captivate and now have experienced the same problem in flash where one sound clip(when tested while in editing mode inside flash sounds perfect) upon publishing it sounds like the person is talking in a cave...on that clip only and thne goes back to how it should sound on the next clip in the timeline.
anyone?
files have been imported as both wav and mp3's

so i went back on a whim to check lowbrow.com, and lo and behold, the messages were gone. boo. I always liked Sarah's moment... but anyway, they are still there, they are just having people call in to leave messages about their topic of the week, then at the end of the week, you get to download all of the messages for that week.
pretty weak, i know, but maybe about 3 or 4 of the items every week have been gems, and they're worth it... i suppose. hehehe. anyway, it's only mildly entertaining, but it's all i have for monday morning...
