I just saw one of my students walking down the hall in capri pants/clamdiggers.
It was a he.
I am disturbed by this.
Men (especially, but women really need to watch overexposure) shouldn't wear these items. Even if sold in your section at the A&F in the mall. Even if your friends are wearing them. In fact, far from advising you to emmulate your compatriots, I advise you find new ones. Ones who don't dress like poofs.
They are not flattering. Many trends are not flattering (see: Sassoon jeans, pleated pants, pegged cuffs).

Since I've moved out of the lab and into the office I've become a persona-non-grata as far as productivity is concerned: I have only been in this position for awhile so I don't know the whole score, and I'm done in a month so I don't really care about keeping my job through motivation and other silly, energy consuming, things.

So until we get FTP access back (ahem, ahem, Rich) I've been playing around in the EA/DTC store. Just for kicks I tested 2 designs today and.. well they seem to work. Keep in mind, these are not anything final and are fully changable. One thing that sucks is that you can't add more than one of the same product (i.e. only one white shirt with one design), but check out what we've got so far and gimme some comments.

so, a little freestyle writing here... rather than the oh so planned "copy and paste" of my mother's exploits over the last few days, hehe.
had an interesting conversation with a SOPH PhD student friend of mine last night who just returned from france (we'll call him Peter4 for short) about blogging and instant messaging and the like, and he's much more a fan of traditional face to face contact, because it's so much more robust and full. god i'm a geek, i use robust in almost any conversation... anywho... we agreed that this is a good method in between writing letters and actually speaking to a person if you're on the other side of the pond... well, more later, have to get back to work...

You know, Snaggy? That guy with the annoying habit of flashing his camera in my face? I totally Did The Dew on his disposable...did he even try to chase us? 'Cause we stopped for a shooter to wait for him to catch up, thought he may want to get his money's worth in ass-whup. Hooray LiveWire! What a fucking stoopid loser that guy was. He had twelve of his buddies telling him to get out of the angry bitch's face and he still didn't heed the word. Even they could see trouble comin', and it wasn't even headed in their direction.

wow... you can certainly see where i get my mad writing skills from...
friday we picked hitomi and toru. we went to the imperial war museum in the morning and airport in the pm. no trouble. the holocaust exhibit was good but depressing. today we went to harrods and took the big tour bus. three hours around london. it has changed, but still old with new facades. food not great but better. last night we went to indian restaurant and hitomi thought it was too hot. yesterday we went to greenwich and saw the prime meridian, etc. it was very crowded. then we heard about the british air strike. it ended, but was scary. tomorrow we will go to the TOWER. remember that? more weapons and a new exhibit of torture items. cool! hitomi saw gangs of new york. she liked it. hmmm. thnaks for caring for the plants etc. later.

here's the raw version of my parents' first day in england:
Hi,
Hope everyone is good. trip was nasty. Couple with 8 kids up all night. Then it was the hottest day since 1977. The room is 6 flights up no lift. Very small. Lasr night dad surprised me with dinner and theater tickets to Les Miserables. It was great. But very hot. The tube is easier than I remembered. Today we went to St. Paul's and then to a hosptital built in 1123. Then to the cabinet war rooms. Very interesting. Will talk some more.
(note the lack of many pronouns and articles... however, descriptive, and who wouldn't like les mis in london on their birthday?)

a fairly innocuous substance, methylamine is used in the production on MDMA and Methamphetamine, and has therefore been put on our list of CDSs. This blows. There are other, completely legitimate, scientific, and not at all dangerous, applications in which methylamine is necessary and cannot be substituted...such as photographic analysis, etc.

while i was reading some old email today (what an exciting guy i am, i know), i came across some links to some baltimore area clubs, namely spy-club, red maple, sonar, plush/black books cafe (careful, that one made my eyes cry out for mercy), edge and wet and redwood trust. and they almost all have one thing in common... they suck (except for the sucky club with the nice site... guess which one it is).

In a flash of brilliance (probably while browsing through the Museum of Modern Art), scientists have discovered a way to augment their dwindling supply of government funding with grants from the NEA.

I would like to remind Ben, Michelle, Rich, Stu, and Jamie (+1), that the ball game is next Friday at 7 p.m. or so.
I think that a meeting place should be established with easy access to the Light Rail.
Note: tix were 23 + 7 in service fees.
Thank You

If you are nice to the Japanese doctors they bring you gifts of sweets and crackers in beautiful containers. Sometimes the food tastes funny so you have to give it to Ben's mom, but otherwise they're nice to snack on. Be nice to the Japanese doctors if you want crackers.

In the dissenting opinion, Clarence Thomas called diversity "the faddish slogan of the cognoscenti" -- a mere "aesthetic" that "does nothing for those too poor or uneducated to participate in elite higher education."
"There is nothing compelling about elite status," Thomas wrote, adding that Michigan "should be forced to choose between its classroom aesthetic and its exclusionary admissions system."

I'll start off with the lileks quote of the day: "Who believes that hypocrisy is somehow the greatest sin of all? Adolescents. Which ought to tell you something." good in and out of context, i think... not the funniest QOTD i've brought, for sure, but deeper the more i think about it...

I dated a long time friend of mine from high school last winter. Things where going quite well, went to New York in December, did the family Christmas thing, all was good. Then come January things got weird. After a few weeks she told me she wanted to go back to the guy that she had been seeing before me. While of course not flattered nor happy with the situation, she had seen the guy for a year and a half before me and I thought he was an alright guy. I was a model of congeniality regarding the situation. Went on a couple more dates with her, and let it go at that.

For those who don't want to spend the time and fortune molding your child into a midget caricature of Barbie (as long as Jon Benet has already been mentioned today), here's another way you can enhance your self-image by screwing up your progeny.

I received this e-mail from Chris today and just knew it was instant DTC material
Hello everyone,
It's time for another rousing mass e-mail. What is the news Chris? Is it good or bad? Well, it's shitty news! Of course! That's how things work.
Anyhow, you know that lovely new cell phone I got that I saved up for? Yeah, the nice expensive one that I bought because I need a reliable cell phone. Well that doesn't work anymore. "Why?" You ask. "Why ever not?" "I demand an answer, ass."

Here is the showreel of a South African based design firm. 13 MB, Quicktime.
