you can't really tell here, because it's just a picture, but in a WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) I made a "glassy, animated button", so that when you mouse over it, it glows a bit, and then when you mouse off, it fades back.
my button:

and when you mouseover it:

Listen, this is a big deal for me... I generally am TERRIBLE at this kind of thing, and even these ugly examples are a big leap for me...

I just realized that the Idiot up the hill from my property near where I do zombie target practice hasn't been there all year and a tree damn near took out the place. Rear deck is crumbling. General disrepair. He bought it in 2005 for 685K. Its listed for 529K with some small time local realtor that does mostly foreclosure sales. I think I will offer them 75K. It will make a nice tol shed + the extra acre and a quarter could come in handy. Asshole took all his firewood though. Anybody want some copper?

So I am now in posession of 11 of the 250,000 limited numbered copies of The Slip that are in existence on CD/DVD. Here they are in order, along with notes as to why the numbers are significant.
11,919 | (lowest number I got) | 22,191 | (also a low number) | 35,958 | (yet another lowish number) | 100,002 | (SO close to exactly 100k) | 155,123 | (closest I have to a midpoint, ends with 123) | 179,880 | (sequential with next) | 179,881 | (sequential with previous) | 186,230 | (sequential with next) | 186,231 | (sequential with previous) | 198,765 | (98765) |
209,700 | (highest number I got) |
I'm leaning toward opening number 155,123 but I'm open to input. I'm also open to the suggestion that I need to buy 16 more copies so that I have 27 in total because this is Halo 27. hehehe

So here is how the collapse is going to play out in the next year:
1. The imminent collapse of the U.S. Economy to occur sometime in late 2008
2, The imminent collapse of the U.S. Government finances sometime in mid 2009
3. The possibility of Civil War inside the United States as a result of the collapse (Jesusland/dumbfukistan vs the United costal republic)
4. The advance round-ups of ?insurgent U.S. Citizens? likely to move against the government
5. The detention of those rounded up at The REX 84 Camps constructed throughout the United States
6. The possibility of public retaliation against members of Congress for the collapses
7. The location of safe facilities for members of Congress and their families to reside during massive civil unrest
8. The necessary and unavoidable merger of The U.S. with Canada and Mexico establishing The North American Union
9. The issuance of a new currency called the AMERO for all three nations as an economic solution.

I guess the problem i'm having - conceptually - with social networking sites is that given the (nearly) infinite plurality of the web, there are so many of them. I'm even on several content specific ones that aren't even listed there - like mobissimo's mobifriends, couchsurfing, etc.
There's another problem, in that your "real" friends who aren't as technically inclined as you are probably aren't on most of them unless you drag them there... and even I get irritated by the invasiveness - not to mention security hole ladenness - of the systems that ask for your email login & password to send emails to all of your friends to get them to join in at plaxo or linkedIn or pleaseBeMyFriendEvenThoughWeOnlyHungOutTwiceAndItWasAwkward.com.
This is just something to think about... I don't have a solution yet, other than strong arming all of the websites into using one single sign on (or even a choice of them) alternatives, or maybe even rolling my own to use their APIs. I understand that 99.98% of these use advertising as their revenue model, so that would probably annoy them...

Reading Rob Conery's blog history, I ran across this post where he implores us to kill our users tables
I was thinking about this - using OpenID, or some other service, to help along with connectivity to other sites (an idea i had - you basically could read/comment on this site from your own)...
what are your guys' thoughts?
For now i'll just say, you should have your password here be useless anywhere else, in my opinion, ;)

I saw this post about an iTunes helper that cleans up your tags... i think i'll give it a try and if it works well, do you think it's worth the $20? I currently don't use iTunes because it's a memory hog compared to winamp, and it's library paradigm is unusual to me (compared to winamp's, with which i've got about 10 years of experience); if this gives SuperTagging (the ONLY feature i loved about Musicmatch) to me, then I would reconsider... opinions?

If you're going to Artscape Sunday the 20th, why not round it off with dinner at XS after the event? I'll be there with Tim from 8 to midnight, so come down, show a little love, have a little sushi (or breakfast!)... it'll be an extra special set for anyone that will be there!

So you know about twice a week, i'm linking to a site or web app here, 99% of the time it's something I find from TechCrunch... these few sites I post are just a tiny percentage of all the ones I find every day... and the volume seems to be increasing. I can't help but wonder if the "noise to signal ratio" is increasing... that's not a perfect analogy, because I'm certainly not clear on what "signal" would be... but the fact that TechCrunch is reporting a dozen tools for FriendFeed, a site that I'm on, which includes a Twitter-like interface (I also use Twitter)... i'm just feeling inundated.
Perhaps it's time to figure out first what I want to do, and then figure out what's out there just for that... rather than jump every time some cool new tool comes out...
either that or get a REALLY good indexing system...

one of the coolest sites out there (at least, in terms of offering something cool) is hidden passageways - yes, they come in and install a trick door/fireplace/whatever in your house... how cool is that?
ok, well, it's even cooler when you do it yourself (because then there's none of that pesky disposing of the bodies of the workmen so your secret room really is a secret)... i could swear i've posted about this before, but it's not in the archive (at least, when i look using firefox's search...). this is even more impetus to add some indexing and whatnot...
