Practice makes Blisters
by adrienne at 30 June, 2003 - 10:46 AM
I look hard. I have blisters all bandaged with Jimmy Neutron band-aids on each finger of my right hand. Threre are some things in this world that you just won't get better at if there are no blisters on your knuckles at the end of the day...and this makes you look hard.

by rich at 30 June, 2003 - 9:11 AM
Where there is a problem a solution must be found.

Problem: most of a keg of beer still at my house. It is a pain in the ass to keep it cold.

Solution: every week day this week I will show another Rocky Movie at 8 or 9 PM. We will make up a stupid key word to drink on. Beer will be gone by the end of the week.

The sooner you come by I.E. tonight the better the movie will be. I will start with Rocky I and go through V.

it was Martini night (again) and after telling a certain young hostess that he wouldn NOT be driving home, that his girlfriend would drive, he drove.
Guess who? That's right. Our reckless and exciting friend Benjamin. I suppose, Ben, you thought I wouldn't notice the cockeyed space you left in the parking lot. It was hard not to, you had the rest of the cars in a wake of crookedness after they'd parked around you.

Four foot tall Asian woman hopes to conquer mountain.
by adrienne at 27 June, 2003 - 6:34 AM
Turns out the mountain is actually a student who does not want to be conquered, wants short, annoying woman to leave her alone.
Woman shoves mountain, mountain (being three hundred pounds and in heels) topples.
Onlooker (me) laughs.
It happened in a room not far from here, in a time much like this one, on a day similar to today.

Is Bush really "leading"?
by Casey at 27 June, 2003 - 2:12 AM
I've decided to take another pot-shot at Bush this morning. I've noticed that even people who would seem to support Bush think he's an idiot. (I'm thinking of you, render "Which is not to say that Bush is not a stoopid shit. He almost certainly is.") The thing that scares me about this is that no one seems to mind. As if its OK to have a simple figure-head as president. I don't know, I really think I'd rather elect someone who was actually calling the shots. I still wasn't really sure though, is it so bad? Then I came across this link.

Okay, this place is just depressing today. If DTC were a geographical location, today it would be the Sahara. Where the hell is everyone?

I don't know if any of you know of http://www.craigslist.org, but it's a pretty cool bulletin board for various cities (sadly, there's not one for B'more). Well, they have a "best of" section and I found this there. I thought it was worth sharing with my DTC family.

I work at KB Toys, and we had a bunch of N’Sync dolls marked down from $17.99 to $0.99. I guess they had been in the clearance section for quite sometime until today. A guy in his mid 40’s came up and bought ten dolls- 2 of each N’Sync member. We asked him if they were for his kids, or anyone else’s kids. His response?

Benjamin, I think I have the croup. This instinct is being bolstered by the recently garnered information that a child I babysat over the weekend is currently a l'hopital avec le croup.
If it's not the SARS it's the croup. I may die. Ralph gets the CDs (and a phone call before my body is cold), you get Ailsa, give Eva my shoes, and make sure your mom knows that she makes the best stuffed cabbage ever. Have a great life, and finish school!

Newsflash: RADIO SUCKS!!

I have a girl at work that works for me that's always listening to top-40 radio here in NY (Z-100 and WPLJ for those that know). Now, I hate commercial radio and their 2 hour rotation of music that they play, but I have a question. I don't know if any one else has experienced this phenomenon, but why the fuck is Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" getting so much airtime? I hear it every two hours. It's not like it's a new song, I just don't get it.

So far, my "Drift Away" count for the day is at 2.....more updates as events warrant.

So my property managers have decided to beautify my rather humble apartment complex (think of it as grad school slum sector, although I'm no longer in school). First they throw up ugly vinyl siding, destroying a bird's nest which had decorated the entrances to my flat for three years. Fine...no more bird shit on the welcome mat, or dead hatchlings, I can handle that, although I miss the inane chatter of the birds. Then they decide to throw in a new concrete walkway (the old one was beat all to hell), tearing up the pitiful grassy mound in front of my abode...I can handle that too. I noticed today that the concrete was not quite set...so I did what every red-blooded American would do with this tabula rasa...:
I drew a pentagram on it!!!

Today in Baltimore a young man working for the Federal Government became comfortable enough during conversation to allow his workmates to share in his secret: that he had shat himself. Yesterday. And once previous to this incident, while on a date.

He once was lost but now is found, is blind and really dead. William's parts were located precariously perched on a window ledge. It made me cry. So much unacheived potential, so many good days ahead. Life cruely cut short by an Evil Russian Blue. It's just the origami flower reflections... but I still look fondly up at his tank and think I can see him happily swimming round and round.

Corn Mo, who is just the biggest most rockinist rock star there ever was, is playing at the 930 club tonight! Tickets are $10. Doors are at 7:30 and Corn Mo goes on at 8:15. There are aparently two other bands playing after him, but who cares about them, because this is CORN MO!!! :D

today's bleat has a more overall tone, but there's still a quote of the day:

"It’s that kind of store. One of those neighborhood urban hardware store that bends time and space in such a way that it contains all possible goods made by human hands: 'I need chimp feed and some teflon grommets.'

'This way.'"

it's a little longer than usual, but a good hook nonetheless, i think.

Now the flame that burns twice as bright
Burns only half as long
My eyes are growing weary
As I finalize this song
So sit back and have a cup o' joe
And watch the wheels go round
'Cause those damned blue-collar tweekers
Have always run this town

So, in the past week I’ve had a moment of clarity.

vacation winding down
by zen at 05 June, 2003 - 8:07 AM
Yes...I'm now more than halfway through my latest vacation. accomplished quite a bit...for once. Will feel good to go to one of B-more's many ethnic festivals this weekend (I think there's a Polish one in Patterson Park, and the Greek one in greektown). Having gone through another period of worklessness I'm glad to see I still have a job, and I cringe at the thought of how many f*ck-ups I'll have to correct when I get back.
One of my work buddies asked me what to do with two things I normally take care of while working. I said, 'do them'. The fact that this stuff went undone makes me uncomfortable with my coworkers' collective proactivity (or lack thereof). Knowing that I'm directly responsible for their training and, to a lesser extent, their on-the-job performance...I can't help feeling just a little worried. Then again, if they did a stellar job (during an easy week), then what am I really doing there, other than soaking up income? Maybe that's the point...

1. The effects of cannabis on a web-based lifestyle.

2. "Fine Arts meets the Sims" A series of drawings from an isometric perspective, in the style of a computer game. The subject of each drawing is the image, or images, that created a popular cultural event. Historical events (like the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Lorraine Motel) are used interchangeably with fictionalized events (like the picnic scene from The Sound of Music)."

3. Einstein wrote this riddle this century. He said 98% of the world could not solve it. It's not hard, you just need to pay attention and be patient.

The Way Forward
by adrienne at 02 June, 2003 - 7:12 AM
What is it that makes some of us more mature than others? Is it motivation? Organization in one's personal finances? A happy relationship? That lasts? Or are all of these elements (and more) required? Can a person be mature if only possesing one or a few of the elements, (like perhaps a person never misses an oil change, but leaves their socks on the floor) or is a mixture necessary?
The trees are full of them, so how is a girl supposed to turn over a new leaf when she doesn't know which is the correct one?
