While reading your topic on Basil Ice Cream, it dawned on me:
I want to be able to check a topic that someone's posted and mark it as a favorite. I know I'm not going to be able to get to the basil ice cream post to try it myself or a while but I don't want to lose it in the mass torrent of posts that happen here. Ben, thoughts?

This will not be your usual political event! We are especially welcoming the younger voters of the district (and those young at heart) to come out to a show with popular local band Pasadena. Your $10 contribution at the door will include your first drink. We will be rocking out interspersed with the messages of respect for our civil liberties, an end to the war in Iraq, and the prosperity that comes when the government lets you keep more of what you earn. Please come out, enjoy yourself, and ask Richard Matthews the tough questions the he needs to answer to earn your vote in November.

Ann found a recipe for basil ice cream just around the same time my parents gave us their really old ice cream maker... so we decided to try this recipe... i've just put it in to the freezer, but after licking the paddles clean, we've decided this is already the best thing EVER. we will definitely make more of this, and try other recipes as well... but for $20 for the machine, and about $5 for the total ingredients, i think you ought to make it yourself... often...

I know Jamie will probably be the only one to want to answer this, and I don't want to screw up his vacation, but...
I need to subtract a number of days (X) from today, but ignore weekends. I think i'm going about it wrong, because I keep getting screwed up if i go past a week.
Example: today (wednesday) if i subtract 3 days, i want to have friday's date. If i subtract 4 days, i want to have last thursday, and 5 days, last wednesday, and so forth...
any ideas?

I went to the farmer's market this morning. They were selling live chickens. I am thinking of buying one, killing it, dressing it and eating it. What say you? It would certainly be a feature on DTC, video and all. I think I would like to find a partner in crime though.
If I read the sign correctly, the chickens were $6 each.

I'm all for the idea of open competition and whatnot, and as a web developer, i like to keep an eye open for new sites that can do it better, or at least differently than something already out there...
so when i see an article like 50 other sites than craigslist that do the same thing... i have to ask... "if an open market is useful by the number of customers and sellers, if there's 50 markets trying to compete with the BIG market... how well will it work?"
i'm obviously not an economist, and haven't studied macro or micro anything, but it feels like most people will just stick with CL because they KNOW there's so much to choose from on there

seriously... it's getting pretty weird out there in advertising land

So I was emailed (spammed?) by http://www.syndigonetworks.com/ mentioning that they wanted to sign me up for their ad service like WJZ of Baltimore. The Dilemma is that I don't feel that I
1. Have enough hits a day to warrant any income
2. Feel like I'm some how selling out
To play devil's advocate though, if I did start getting income from blogbaltimore.com (name drop!) then maybe I'd start writing more.
Ben have you been propositioned by the scary men in suits wanting to steal your soul for money? Anyone else have any thoughts?

Looks like the installer for VS 2008 Team Suite (The $10K version of Visual Studio) will take ANY cd-key as long as it is for a VS 2008 product. So if you have the tard or Pro edition - download the Team suite trial. Select upgrade and enter the tard edition cd-key. You have now pWned Bill and Steve.

The Slip, which can be downloaded for free, will see a limited worldwide release of 250,000 individually numbered CDs. The CD will come with a DVD that contains videos of live rehearsals. The album will also be released on vinyl. Both versions go on sale July 22nd, but can be pre-ordered now.
So far, I've ordered like 7 copies of the CD from various retailers. I'm a crazypants :p

I'm pretty insulated on my commute, I have been since I was in high school, riding the MTA busses. My method has always involved headphones, and usually either a book or magazine... i don't bother you, you don't bother me, i get where I'm going with no problems.

I've been doing more and more on the web and I don't want to be an apps junky anymore. I want to learn a language that'll let me do somethings on the web that are cool and fun. I've heard of Ajax, Flash, Ruby (on Rails), .Net (?) and I just can't decide.
Right now I'm leaning towards http://www.rubyonrails.org/ because it looks easy BUT I don't want to put the effort in to a language that's going to die off much like C++ in highschool but I don't want to get involved with a language that's too specific or complicated.
I don't want to be a hard core programmer but if I wanted to setup my own website without dumping some app from some page and keeping it simple, what should I look into?

I read quite a few (I think) blogs, and several of them are tech blogs that I've aggregated for a few years. One is tech crunch - a blog that (mostly) profiles, reviews and compares the really cool new startups and sites that are out or coming out, and the industry itself (something of obvious interest to a web programmer). Most of you are familiar with it laterally, through the pretty cool sites I link to from time to time - most of them i find through TechCrunch.
Lately however, I've noticed that the main guy, Michael Arrington, has started to use his (rather large) box more and more often to critique things like Copyright law... most recently here, and previously here...
That last link goes to Techdirt - another blog I read that is almost always discussing the legal side of technology - music and patent law mostly... these kinds of arguments are common there, but for me, it seems odd that TechCrunch is leaning more and more in this direction...
My question then is, does a large audience make one's opinion more important? If I had a lot of readers, should I try to impress upon them my feelings on a topic? I don't know the answer, personally...

just found Repairpal, it's pretty cool - you put in your make, model & year of car, and tell the site what's wrong with your car, they tell you how much you should pay to fix it... I am always worried i'm getting taken (especially after my friend told me that the estimate i was given was ludicrous, and he works in a repair shop...), so this is pretty cool... check it out, play with it!

Tidal TV (in beta of course) - it's a different layout from the others (Joost & Hulu being the only ones i've tried) but they seem to have quite a bit of content - especially FoodTV!!! so, i'm liking that.
also, from the lobby of the Boston WTC, I haven't had any lag issues... so, whatever they're doing, pretty cool.

I was grocery shopping yesterday. On clearance they had these boxes of "Wild Animal Crunch" for $1.50. I am a sucker for a deal, and I figured it would make for good content on DTC.
So, I have to say they are pretty tasty. Who knew polar bear flavored grains could be such a tasty part of a balanced breakfast?

I need to write an installer for a web project. The website IS the software to be installed, so part of the installation will need to make sure that the app is connected properly in IIS.
As part of the installation process, I also need to gather information for a database connection (and test it), select an installed printer, and request (and validate) a registration key.
The results of this information gathering need to be stored in the web.config for the installed site.
I'd also like to ensure ahead of time that ASP.NET 3.5 is installed.
