hehe, just noticed muhgcee's warning above this text box, very nice...
anyway, i wanted to talk about something my brother told me about this weekend but that i didn't see until today... and that is "Spore". If you go to your search engine of choice and type in spore video game, you'll most likely find as your top link a link to this video - a demonstration of what Spore is... i.e. a simulation game of evolution. it's not due out until fall, but this looks like the coolest thing, based on design alone, that i've seen come out in a long time.
if you look at some of the videos linked there, there's a longer one where Will Wright (the creator - and check out some of what he's done) explains his motivation behind it.. a pretty cool insight into the game developers' world (especially because this is from the Game Developers' Conference).
anywho... spore, awesome idea for a game, cheers to that

Update...
Honda Civic Si. 197 horsepower. 0 - 60 in 6.9 seconds. Slalom as fast as the $86,000 Dodge Viper. Yay.
Well...didn't see it coming, but I got a raise. And two days ago, my rear passenger tire went flat, and it looks like it is going flat every two days. Also my check engine light just came on. So I am thinking...why not get a new car?
My current car is a 1994 Lexus ES300 with 85,000 miles, worth about $5,000 - $6,000. And I think I will put $10,000 down. I am looking at:
$33,295 BMW 325i - RWD, 215HP, manual 20/30
$31,359 Lexus IS250 - RWD, 204HP, manual, 20/29
$22,485 Ford Mustang - 210HP, manual, 19/28
Those prices are after I have added the features I want. I would like to keep it at $33k max...but preferably closer to $30k. What do you all think between those three? Or should I be looking at something else?
Also, I have always found the whole service/warranty thing to be rather boring, but it is obviously pretty important. Any insight on service and warranty with those car companies?

I've got to say, i've gone the opposite way from carl franklin (nice domain name, by the way), and tossed uTorrent for Azureus. In addition to the comment i left (uTorrent just kept stealing more of my RAM), uTorrent didn't like the nVidia firewall that i have installed, and even though it was off, kept warning me that it didn't like it... and that nVidia's firewall is buggy (which is why i turned it off, but still, that's mean).
anywho... what do you guys like more? i like Azureus well enough...

so many of you know that i cut my thumb while changing one of the lightbulbs at work last tuesday. now you all do...
anyway, it's healing nicely, but that means it's at that point where it itches like crazy... you know what i mean. you KNOW what's going to happen, you even have the shortest path to the band aids planned out, but you can't NOT pick the damn scab. that's where i am...
anyone have any suggestions?

i don't remember if i wrote about newsvine before, but here you go...
it reminds me a bit of kuro5hin, which was popular a few years ago, but has now died out a lot... except that newsvine is for any news. the problem i'm seeing is that not enough people seem to be using it, or at least not enough are contributing to it to make it competitive with /. or digg. i like the format of newsvine better - it's more like a newspaper in navigability, which i like.
i've got an account, but i'm also not sure how to put it to use... do i go scour for news and post it on here, do i just respond to what's listed, i'm not sure what the expectations are of the users either... but at least there's some good reading there, if you're looking for another good source of news

(almost) Direct copy/paste from my site:
I wrote up a short article on Wikinews: Thousands in San Francisco protest US wars. It isn't a great article, and it is pretty short, but it is kind of neat to write your own news. Also, the nice thing is that other people can go in there and edit it - add more information and such.
And now my picture is on the main page.

So I'm fairly certain that almost nobody here cares about comic book continuity or any such things other than me, but I figured I'd post this here anyway just to leech off of Ben's Google Ranking.
But if I'm wrong and you actually do care, I'd love your input. For those that don't know, Crisis on Infinite Earths was DC Comics' 1985 attempt to "fix" their continuity by merging all of their multiple universes into one. Last year they began the sequel to that story, Infinite Crisis. What I'm attempting to do is put together a list of all of the trades that tie these two stories together (It's not gay dad, it's trade!). So without further ado, here's Crisis2Crisis.com. Taste that DHTML. oh yeah.

I suggest that you all read this interview with Linus Torvalds. It is about GPLv3 and its possible use with Linux. I found myself thinking a question...and then they would ask the question.
My only gripe is that they refer to Linux as being Linus', and they refer to it as an operating system. Linux is a kernel, and GNU/Linux is an operating system.

Based on the popularity of the Tor shirt I was trying to give away (Ben is evidently the only cool one here - he is taking it), I am giving away a few DVDs. I've got them ripped to my HD now so I have no use for the physical discs anymore:
Barbershop (This is actually a good movie)

So send your address to stu@fourmajor.com and I will shoot them off to you for free.

Um, so I'm trying to use the Windows Components Add/Remove to install IIS as I have countless times in the past with other windows installations... Why am I now getting this?
As you can see, the file definitely exists in the folder it is looking for it in. If I try popping in the original install CD (not SP), it still says it can't copy the file. If I cancel this one file, the next one fails and so forth.
WTF, mate?

i know that when i need to concentrate on a problem, or it's getting loud in the office, i turn on winamp and find something to listen to to zone out of the world and focus... right now i have the Cure's Greatest Hits on, but other favorites are RJD2, Gogol Bordello, Travis, Gotan Project and Death Cab for Cutie...
i know ralph turns on his iPod when he needs to and plays some punk, or ABBA, you know, whatever works, hehehe... what about the rest of you? what work music do you like?

Some people are putting software out that lets you edit or update or post to your blog without having to be online - an app that runs on your box and lets you post
now i know we're not very popular, but after v5 comes out for EA, would you guys use something like that? I know some of you have complained that the session times you out if you take too long to write something.
if you are like me, and use notepad to write your post first, this isn't such a big deal, but blogjet and w.bloggar give you pretty interfaces and whatnot...
so, let me know if you like this idea...
