Without UBS's auction-rate securities they were nothing. They built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men.
On the roads it was a white line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice. And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed.
Except for one man armed with an AK-47, and a Honda full of silver.

This Power Point came up on something called ULS Systems (ULTRA LARGE SCALE).
Kind of interesting for a random find.

I like using different greetings, other than the standard fare such as "hello," "hey," and the like. Here are some of the ones I use:
ahoy
greetings
and a recent addition: Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. I take caution to not say this one to young women.
What are your favorite non-traditional greetings?

God damnit.
So, I'll admit that I was a big fan of Donkey Konga ( wiki, amazon), but none of the other rhythm games have ever interested me. I tried DDR ( www, wiki, amazon) once or twice and just didn't like it at all. My cousin got Karaoke Revolution ( wiki, amazon) for Christmas last year and we had some fun fooling around on that, but not enogh that I'd want to own it. I never tried Guitar Hero ( www, wiki, amazon). The whole thing always seemed so silly because it was so much NOT like playing a guitar and I just didn't have any interest in it at all.
But when Rock Band ( www, wiki, amazon) was coming out and they starting announcing artists that would be in the game, I saw that Nine Inch Nails ( www, wiki, amazon) was going to be represented. That got me a little interested, but not interested enough to buy it or anything. That'd just be silly. I figured it was just a cross between Guitar Hero and Karaoke Revolution. Then a couple weeks ago, they came out with the first Nine Inch Nails track pack. That interested me enough to invite John to bring his 360 over so I could give it a try. I mean, I sing along to NIN all the time. I did okay at Karaoke Revolution. I've been told I'd make a good front man. I figured I could rock some vocals.
Turns out I'm a drummer.

so if you wanted a whole pig, when you see him, blame Ralph... hehehehehe
It looks like the pig pickin' has been downgraded to a BBQing, as it would appear the plans for the whole pig idea were not as well put together as I thought (by which I mean I thought the equipment and the [cleaned and gutted] pig were ensured, and $300)... so instead, regular old grilling and BBQ will be on the menu, and this time, no shrapnel in the sausage. but i AM definitely going to do the soaking in beer & fennel again... the taste (after you washed off the grit) was fantastic.
Sorry for any hopes i have crushed like so many cloves of garlic...

for keeping this site alive, limping along as it is...
traffic has dropped drastically, and i'm just debating the cost/benefit ratio here - the site is free to all, but costs me money, so i want to feel like it's worthwhile... so... kick it up! i mean, i can turn it into a blog if you want and just babble on about my own shit, but i imagined this place more as a message board for ideas and, well, cool shit on the internet.
so stop IMing cool things to people, post them here! and then send your friends the links to this page, so they can talk about the cool thing you've posted for the world to see!
that is all...

Just a quick update to the DTC audience. I won my primary last month and I am officially the Republican nominee for Congress in the Second Congressional District. Jamie and Ben have done some wonderful work on my campaign site. Penn is starting to gussy things up, beginning with my picture. Big thanks go out to those guys for all the work they have done.
www.richardmatthews.org
Something looks funny about it, I can't understand the resemblance, but I know I have seen something that looks like that site before.
I have a Campaign Manager and Treasurer and we are digging in our heals with FEC paperwork and all that goes with it (ugg!)
The next step to take is to achieve $5000 in campaign donations. Once I hit that figure I will be taken a good bit more seriously and have alot more paperwork to fill out (joy!). My Campaign Manager is forcing me to hit up every venue I know of towards this goal, so here I am.
Wont you contribute to furthering the goals of Liberty, Peace and Prosperity? I am a regular guy running, hoping to shake things up a little bit in this state and country. Donate via this link please.

as i'm really settling in to new life at Cynergy, I'm noticing that I've become pretty predictable in a lot of ways - specifically, how I set up a new computer. Not just in what apps I load, but also how I organize things. For instance, I've had this to look at on my desktop for probably every computer I've owned/used in the last 6 years:

that little "Apps" folder is the first folder I make on a new laptop, and it's my default save destination for Firefox downloads, where I keep all of my installers, builders, and most anything I don't immediately categorize elsewhere...
that icon, by the way, in windows, can be set by right clicking on any folder, clicking properties, and then the Customize tab, and hitting the Change Icon... button. I've just always used the old zip disc image since in college, that was where I kept all of my stuff to take to the computer labs...
does anyone else do something similar? how do you organize your computer?

I got an invite to buru via invite share (which in turn, i found via subscribing to tech crunch), and it's pretty cool so far. At least, i'm just playing around and having fun finding links to cool new sites - within a few minutes i found songza, which has some kind of engine for searching and finding music - they have a LOT. It looks like quite a bit from youtube, but also from elsewhere. It's kind of like hype machine meets google...
so which one is the site of the week again? oh yeah, buru is...

We will be there soon. Of course I told you all that the depression is coming. Unfortunately most of us won't survive this no matter how well prepared we are. Unless you have good arable farm land and are far enough away from the soon to be urban hell holes – you are finished. This will be known in the history books as the Great Die Off. We are going to be seeing families and children starving to death in the streets of America within the next five years. This is going to rock!

As most of you know, i've been using Hulu.com for a while now - they show Fox & NBC shows and movies - and I've been watching New Amsterdam, which I like, possibly because it's low rated, or possibly because it's well written, and has actually pretty cool characters.
there's an interesting facet of it too... his being immortal, though quite a bit younger than the highlander... comparisons abound
anyone seen it? thoughts? i will try to tivo it, to help out the ratings that are slumping steadily...

So... Just in case any of you ever needed to know this information, Windows Vista doesn't let you use multiple video cards unless all of the video cards use the same driver. That means if you've got a sexy ATI card as your primary and you want to toss in a cheap nVidia to power tertiary monitors, you can't do it. You have to get another expensive ATI card that will use the exact same drivers. Pain in my fucking ass.

I don't know how many of you pay attention to the stuff on the right here -> but we have some nice stuff going on, and i wanted to make sure they got attention.
Firstly is the link-o-matic... glance at it every now and then, so you don't miss any really great links that some of us put on there from time to time...
Secondly is my DJ calendar that Jamie was nice enough to figure out how to create. It's all of my upcoming gigs, so you can go to them now! Because they're there! and you are too!
Then of course there's the Flickr badge, pretty simple stuff, nothing fancy there, just nice, if you like my pictures... hehe
Of newer note are my Grandcentral badge (call me sometime!) - it's neat, it's funky, and i'm a fan...
Finally there's SomaFM, which is my current favorite web radio, with over TEN stations (and apparently even more if you go through shoutcast directly). I try to give them money every year, because there's no commercials, I like the music, and I like the internet... and they send me shirts. Give them a listen if you want, there's something there for almost everybody, hehe

So, a few of us have been tossing around the idea of a pig pickin/roast/big effin' get together in the park across the street from my house.
I've talked to the almighty Spike and the wheels are turning with the City for my permit, but before the application arrives, I realized I need to know what day I'm going to be doing this. Common consensus was "end of May", on or around Memorial Day.
Here's the poll: should this fantastic party (including a WHOLE pig and a WHOLE keg) be held on Memorial Day weekend (Memorial day itself even?) or the weekend after, in case a lot of people are traveling for the holiday?
EANauts, you decide! I need to know by... 5 p.m. Wednesday.

before i rant, full disclosure: I don't know how I got these albums, or really from where I copied them, my home computer (using iTunes) or my old work computer (using Floola). that said - my iPod is kind of annoying right now as there are several tracks on several albums that will play for a while and then fail, and the iPod will just skip to the next track. I'm not sure if it's because I'm closing in on 80% full on the thing and copied some files to it, or if it's just a piece now... but it's irritating to be on the train in the middle of a track and then you're at the beginning of a completely different one.
that is all
