Yes...I'm a sucker. A sucker for old skool 1980s morality-free shoot 'em up after school cartoons (ok, just the Transformers, but I loved that more than I love most things). I learned that it was perfectly fine to go blow something away if it wasn't on my team (with really bad aim, but I digress). I learned how to sink $.75 a month, then $1...then eventually $1.50 into advertising rags thinly disguised as comic books. Optimus Prime is the one 1980s figure upon whom I've based a lot more of my thinking and being than I should probably admit (especially since he had a knack for getting killed and wasn't much of a military leader).
So should I be disturbed if I see my old friends (some would say my only lifelong friend) decorating the cover of a $5.25 comic book...and not even one with a story, just a bunch of cool art and character profiles? I still bought the book, but I feel...dirty.

I think my favorite point of an other wise hellish night was this older guy at the Stil. After about 10 minutes of talking to Adrienne and I, she walked away to fill her curiosity with Guam firemen. Barry and I started talking baseball, and then he made this quote about dren “You know what would be good for that girl? To tie her up and feed her corn flakes until she settles down”

My head really hurts now. It could be a mix of liquor and using my noggin as a basketball, but for whatever reason I'm not relishing the thought of being here till five.
Please call me at work with a bullshit story or something about how you have to pick me up at 3:30.
(I'm going to the beach tonight and I need to get there before Eva and Caitlin decide to start without me. Those bitches will smoke me if I don't catch up and keep up.)

It seems that the hunter has been caught in his own snare. Tucker Max, a very funny guy (and J.D.), is being sued by one of his ex's over things he wrote about their relationship on his groundbreaking, and not just a little scandalous, website. If you're familiar with Max you'd better see this. Miss Vermont is finally striking back, albeit in the most unoriginal way imaginable. (Though fairly ironic considering Max's disdain for his own law degree.)

on my random wanderings through the internet today (try to keep up with this, it's fun watching the swirling colors)... i was doing work, and someone asked me a question about brian clevinger (i think?), which made me think of ralph, which reminded me of the new york trip, and how i spent time reading that internet timeline, and it made me want to find that site that casey posted about a while back (thanks to rich who remembered it was casey) and chuckle over it again.

Being the neighborly neighbor I am, I personally walked over next door to have a conversation advising of our party pending in a few hours. I gave out a slip of paper with my phone number and asked them to not hesitate to call with any issues they might have.

dropped in on a lady friend of mine yesterday with the intention of taking her out and showing her a good time (she's depressed). all well and good, but she tells me she's being picked up by someone after work. that's fine...until I discover that the person she's meeting is a gentleman against whom she'd taken a restraining order a month before, forbidding contact of any kind. she tells me the story later because I left her place of work in a huff...apparently this joker got in touch with her, asking if she wanted to do something, and she just said "OK". aside from the fact that I'm concerned about her safety, I was thunderstruck by the sheer lack of any kind of sense or good judgment shown by this friend. made me wonder if this was her way of getting me back for not seducing her....I guess that shows me I shouldn't interfere in the affairs of someone taking antidepressants and lithium...

Okay, like i said last night, the Matrix: Reloaded is fantastic.
All of you fanboys out there don't need to ph3ar, i won't reveal any spoilers. This is easily the best sequel that I've seen and it lives up to the hype. I'm not sure about where i put it up against the original, because the inital movie was so different than anything else I'd ever seen. Reloaded is the perfect compliment to the original.

Okay, i just returned from seeing The Matrix: Reloaded and it FUKKIN' RAWKED!!!! Hands down the best sequel I have ever seen and easily the first blockbuster that I've seen that stands up to all of the hype. I won't go into any details tonight, but tomorrow I'll review it. I'm beside myself, it was fuckin' sick.

ok, we've done a few minor design changes, to get the site prettier and more useful, now comes the links page.
i haven't updated this in a long while, and there are now an infinitely larger number of people linking here from their (your sites)... if you want a link to some place that you have that i may know about, or don't know about, or definitely know about but have been too lazy to reciprocate, now is the time. email me, or let me know here in the comments the url of your site, maybe a title, maybe not, and anything else you want. so far i know of a few, and will work on remembering who they are, but don't assume this includes you yet, hehehe

Some of us think it is not ok for people to own guns. Guns shoot people, often mangling them in particularly uncomfortable ways. Others among us think that it is ok for a law abiding person to own a gun for self defense. After all, if guns are not legal only criminals will have them and the criminals would be free to rape and maim us at will. Both sets of people will site endless studies and stories defending their position and its relationship to crime statistics and what not. However, I think these two groups can almost certainly agree on two things: one, a responsible person that is placed into a potentially dangerous situation should be able to carry pepper spray or some other temporarily disabling device to protect themselves, i.e. some form of weapon. (Of course here I am assuming the idea of an inherent right to self defense, which is not universally accepted) Secondly both ideologies can agree that no matter how dangerous the neighborhood we can conclusively say that no civilian should own, or build, any type of nuclear weapon.
And so therefore it can be said that gun control (or put more simply weapon control) argument lies somewhere between these two extremes.

I know a few of you EA folks have described or still describe yourselves as conservative. I have a great deal of trouble trying to figure out where I fit into the landscape of political sterotypes. I think I need more outside perspecitve on where others (especially "conservatives") put thier own views on the "political landscape". I came across this article and and thought it might be interesting to see what you folks think of it, and how the author's thinking compares to your own.

The chunk problem my ass has encountered is being battled by my new resolution: every hour of the workday I will walk down four flights of stairs to the first floor, then walk back up. To avoid cheating I will touch a specific windowsill and say 'George Burns is hung'.

The obsessing of many Americans about race is not only undiminished by decades of improvements in race relations, it seems inversely related to improvements. The better things become, the more vehemently some persons, white and black, insist that progress is, if not chimerical, certainly minimal and fragile.
This column by George Will sums up much of my confusion and opinion about “the question of race in America.”

I'm mid-sonar right now, listening or the first time, really listening to other people's dnb. I have heard and really liked kr8n's sets, but here waiting for peter k., I'm listening to this set and either he's really good, or I'm just in the mood for it, but this is some good stuff... I'll have to ask lonnie about it.

You may have heard or seen on the news the recent rescue of approximately 300 cats and 17 dogs from a private rescue shelter in Caroline County, in what is being called the largest extraction of animals in the history of the United States Humane Society.

Canada protects civil liberties better than the US?
"[...] Canadian laws and regulations intended to protect Canadian citizens and landed immigrants from government intrusion sometimes limit the depth of investigations."
It's also interesting to note that assaults attributed to terrorists killed 725 people in 2002. That's less than half the death toll of SARS (so far). Of course, the current mutation of SARS doesn't take out entire buildings.

1. for news, people should create links to their news items.
2. ever notice how the words KNAC, Headbanger's Ball and Metallica seem to go together so often?
3. see number one.
