Here it is. The very best exposition I've ever seen on the role of Saudi Arabia in world oil production. Think about what the information in this article means. We owe every aspect of our current affluent lifestyles to Saudi Arabia. In that sense, we are not a soveriegn nation.

I noticed today that Gillette has a line of razors for men and women called "Custom". Except, of course, they are anything but custom. Sold in a multipack, you pull one off the shelf and there are dozens more exactly like it to be picked up by the next customer who, of course, has a different face and hence might be able to benefit from a razor that is "customized" to them. Does this seem strange to anyone else?

i'm pretty sure i've seen this kind of behaviour from everyone i know here... makes me proud:
'If "manners maketh man" as someone said
Then he's the hero of the day
It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile
Be yourself no matter what they say'

OK now everyone pat me on the back for harassing our T1 provider and hence getting our site back online . . . Now that that is over with - I just completed the most gruelling drive of my life. Over 700 miles in 11 hours with one driver and one stop. Oh yeah. Sorry, I just feel proud of myself. Anyway, I am here with Rich now in Georgia, currently sitting by the pool making use of the wireless. Good stuff.

management apologizes for the inconvenience. our failover backup located at the pentagon was apparently removed and burned at the stake for crimes against hamstermanity, so when the power went out due to the environmental backlash by mother nature (she was, apparently, not happy to see the aspen leaves burned in honor of Gruad fnord), we could not provide you our usual excellent array of stuff that's damn cool...

So you all heard about the raid and arrest of Ahmed Chalabi, the US's original pick to be the Interim Iraqi president, right? In case you didn't, the reason why they liked this guy so much is becasue he was a Shia (like the majority of Iraqis), was American educated, and very anti-Saddam. Now it looks like he was just a disguised mouthpeice for Iran.
Holy shit.

no, not THE opera... opera the browser for linux...
yes, virginia, there is a flash install for it, but it's not until you download and start the installer does it tell you that you can install it for opera (and not just mozilla).
also, i don't know how handy this is, but there is a "Newsfeed" button on the site, showing me the RSS in opera, email fashion. i'm up in the air about this, because there's not much management i've found for this (notification, etc.), but still, neat.

This year's sex scandal brought to you by Wonkette and the Washington Post. I wish we knew who the men involved are.
Was she really bedding six different men or making it all up? And who is the married, high-level, [Bush-appointed], federal employee she claims paid her $400 for a lunch-hour tryst? [...] "Everything is true," Cutler told us in an interview. "It's so cliched. It's like, 'There's a slutty girl on the Hill?' There's millions of 'em," she said, laughing. "A lot of my friends are way worse than me."

And all you hippies that buy into the marketing of the "organic food" label are being conned by the big business corporations behind it. Organic food is a manipulation of reality. The shit is vastly more expensive and less safe for you than good-old-fashioned USDA and FDA approved stuff.
What's more, the big business of "organic foods" is trying to make thier product cheaper by relaxing the standards of making "organic food" while retaining the only thing they really like about it, the "organic" label.

For the other wise uninitiated who do not know my full name, it is Richard Matthews. Through out my life I have had occasional problems on various written lists being mixed up with my alter ego Matthew Richards. This morning totally out of no where Matthew launched, by far, his most wildly successful attack ever.

my cousin got married on Saturday. The priest was a Vegas lounge act. There's nothing worse than an emotive Catholic who ad-libs his love for God. I almost laughed during the ceremony. Picture it.
"Oh children, God loves you so much and he just wants you to love each other...so promise me, yes promise me now, me and God, that no matter how tough your day is, no matter how long the road, each night you will take the time, just a few minutes or so, not long, to hold each other in your arms and tell each other, because good communication is very important, tell each other how much you love one another. Go ahead. Promise me, and God, that you will do this. Say 'I promise'. Say it for God. "
-insert terrified bride and increasingly angry groom-
Getting hitched is tough enough without un-rehearsed statement-making from the crackhead priest.

ok... so, weekend was pretty run of the mill until yesterday, when in the afternoon, i went and saw Troy with my friend Tom (yay Troy! can you guess who wins?)... then, late as usual, i ran off to see Van Helsing with Jamie ("I've never seen the sea... I hear it's beautiful!")... that was pretty Velveeta (and by Velveeta I mean reprocessed cheese)... I'll let Jamie give you his impressions, but as for me, i kept noticing things that they referenced from older, better movies in a seeming attempt to gain credibility without actually having any of their own...

You guys want to play slueth? So if you have a mac, open safari and then open your downloads monitor (or if you are feeling destructive, use your windows machine and explorer). Then go to the al-jazeera.net website. You should immediately notice that something tries to download itself. On the mac I've noticed it never actually installs. I just tried it now on my windows machine at work (I've had a few minutes to kill on blogdex, and here). Suddenly I remember the little ware, quit explorer and tried to quit outlook. Then my puter locked up. Then I just shut the whole thing down, ctrl, alt, del style.
So here's the question for all you super-nerds. What the hell is this download?
Spyware for the NSA to monitor my browsing habits (I'm reading al-jazeera, therefore I must be a terrorist).
Al-Quaeda using al-jazeera as a cyber-war launch site?
What?

Surreal. I was in the middle of the E! Network's WildOn SouthBeach, I swear to Mike. I thought it was gonna be all interview-ey and formal and it wasn't...the future prospective boss drinks alot, then goes to the bathroom (- eats a powdered doghnut -) and comes back refreshed. It was like a wierd 'we met on the internet' date, only less comfortable. I decided it was the smartest thing to just drink Perrier.

i hate to give publicity to someone i am angry with, but jennifer weiner spammed me trying to get me to buy her books. who is jennifer weiner, you may be asking? i have no idea right now, other than someone who sent me spam under the guise of saying thank you (via form letter) for writing to her.
to which i responded, of course... i didn't write to you, sorry... and of course, got the mail daemon to tell me that she doesn't exist... so, ideas anyone? should i reciprocate? perhaps put her email on a few sites? yes... her real one.

"One thing is for certain: There won't be any more mass graves and torture rooms and rape rooms [in Iraq]."—Bush, press availability in Monterrey, Mexico, Jan. 12, 2004
"[B]etween October and December 2003, at the Abu Ghraib Confinement Facility (BCCF), numerous incidents of sadistic, blatant, and wanton criminal abuses were inflicted on several detainees. … I find that the intentional abuse of detainees by military police personnel included the following acts:
a. Punching, slapping, and kicking detainees; jumping on their naked feet;
k. A male MP guard having sex with a female detainee;

Okay, maybe I just need to stop smoking crack in the morning, but I swear this is what I saw. I was driving up 40 heading East toward 695 after picking up breakfast at the gas station. I noticed a woman walking down the grassy median. Now this would not be so odd except for... well... lots of things.

dude, Dark_Knight just showed me we have a "research" button in IE... right click somewhere in the toolbar, click customize, and it's there near the bottom.
note: he theorizes that it might be a feature of Office 2k3... but it's worth a check... this is a really cool feature!

It looks like I have bought this. Four months after selling my Dell tank-o-laptop to Ben and Michelle I find my self in a job where I am traveling a lot. I wanted something small, geeky and sexy all in one. I think this just might do it. Plus I am going to force myself to learn some OSX Mac, a topic I have been ignorant of for way too long.
I have got to say it is pretty sweet, but I give myself a few years until I am holding tent revivals.

Dear Mom,
It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm telling you that I
eloped with my new boyfriend. I found real passion and he is so nice, with all his piercing and tattoos and his big motorcycle.
But is not only that mom, I'm pregnant and Ahmed said that we will be very happy in his trailer in the woods. He wants to have lots more children with me and that's one of my dreams. I've learned that marijuana doesn't hurt anyone and we'll be growing it for us and his friends, who are providing us with all the cocaine and ecstacy we may want.
In the meantime, we'll pray for science to find the AIDS cure for Ahmed to get better, he deserves it.
Don't worry Mom, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Some day I'll visit so you can know your grandchildren.
Your daughter,
Judith
PS: Mom, it's not true. I'm at the neighbor's house. I just wanted to show you that there are worse things in life than my report Card that's in my desk drawer...
I love you!

I didn't want to come to work this morning because I drank tew much last night, so I fibbed and told work I had an interview. To make it sound good I even created a story about my interviewer smacking into my car in the parking lot, and embellished with magnanimous good cheer..."my car's such a beater anyway, it's not like you could even tell". I'm good.

I wish I could be more gracious about stoopid things people do, but when it comes to stoopid tatoos I simply must chuckle out loud. Girlie has got herself another misunderstanding skin-deep, and this time it's really funny. She tatooed YIDDISH words (which turned out to mean something completely different than she intended) on herself even though, if you're Jewish, tats are completely verbotten. Hey, Britney, do it again! Third time's the charm, eh?
hehe, nice one dipshit.

Last night, Pie, Faith, and I went to see Jesus Christ Superstar at the Warner in DC. I had of course seen this play before in movie form on television a couple times, but this as my first time seeing it performed live. Faith was in the same boat I was in. Pie mouthed along to every song. I enjoyed it quite thoroughly.

short rant today... i don't like guest strips... i understand why people put them up... they just never capture any of the funny that the author has. i understand that the author thinks these people are funny, but if i liked them, i would read them. i understand that part of the reason is to introduce me to these other authors, but i have enough people shoving links down my trillian tube every day...
guest strips are teh suck

I'm sure most of you have seen this by now. Here it is anyway. I am really liking this site. I'm making it a regular visit and maybe dropping K5 or something to compensate.
One of my favorite targets is Bill O'Reilly. The guy simply isn't a journalist even though he plays one on TV. Journalists aren't allowed personal opinions.

I went shopping, purchased tops and a dress. He accused me of...wait for it....coordinating outfits. That's right, putting clothes together with other clothes in such a way that they would make outfits which wouldn't clash within themselves. I am stunned. This is one of my two greatest creative outlets! I shop for clothing to make, that's right, outfits, and I fold modular origame. I'm pretty good at both and take the chance to practice whenever possible. I have no idea what to do...wear large floral print with plaid? Would this make him happy? How about paisley? With stripes?

or, as i was going to title it, "the first time in a long time i've spent 24 hours mostly awake and completely sober"... but then i realized that as i was going to sleep on the reclining chair at the haus that the caffeine buzz i had was giving me this eerie feeling that i was rocking just a little, as if i were in a hammock.
that wasn't the best part of the night however. my personal favorite was when Dan (from work) and Jamie duked it out one on one for the championship of unreal tournament (2004, for those who are interested and weren't there)... Artifact Software represented well, because after that, we played Rise of Nations (a very tough game) in which Stu, Jamie, myself and someone i had just met (what was his name?) took over most of the world from Rich I, Rich II et al. Because Stu's not interested in extra large t-shirts, Jamie and i got the remaining 2 shirts... w00t to us!
