So I had a little too much to drink last night and had a great dream : The Great Depression 2007 Post housing bubble collapse. In my vision I saw
Entire parkinglots of burned-out abandoned Home Depots and Wal-Marts will be filled with the rusting hulks of old minivans and SUVs, in which people evicted from their reposessed homes will live. Grubby kids will play amidst the laundry-lines strung between vehicles, while moms will grill their kids hotdogs with bic lighters and shit into plastic bags.
Burn baby Burn!!!

Here is a list of websites that I find to be best for these basic purposes. New tools are constantly coming out that are later and greater than what is currently out, so this is simply a current snapshot.
weather National Weather Service
maps/directions Google Maps
reference Wikipedia
news Google News
all-in-one homepage Google Personalized Home
sports Yahoo Sports
Do you think I am missing something? I generally give higher points to websites that don't have moving ads and are easy to use.

When I started using my own blog instead of this one for general day-to-day crap, the usefulness of this blog to me as far as being an author declined. It was then only useful to me for the amount of comments, as in if I required feedback to a post of mine. After several posts which received few or no comments (as all of the surrounding posts did), I realized that almost all of my content would generally be better suited to my own blog, rather than this one.
Well, this blog still does have a different audience than mine, and probably still at least a few more readers. So now my policy has generally been, if I think something that I write is particularly useful or of high quality, I will post it on my own blog and link to it here, or if it is short enough, simply copy/paste to this blog. Whereas before I was posting here for my own good most of the time, the concept now is that I post here when I think it will be useful for others (barring my recent podcast post).
So my question is: Is this a good policy? Or would you all rather I only posted "original" content here, rather than just linking to my own site, or copying/pasting what I just posted on my site? I don't want to feel like I am just whoring myself out to the EA crowd to get more traffic to my own site.

well, Lauren, Jamie, Pie, Kevin & Kevin & David Cross (no, this one, not that one!) and I went to see the new Harry Potter last night at the midnight showing in white marsh... I have to say, i give it a b-... it was still Harry Potter, but just not as good as the other ones. I'd still say go for the books instead...

My company is looking into updating our animation workstations and I wanted to ask: Just what type of computer would you suggest? We need a good Dual Processing machine and we're on Disk Arrays (plus most of our software is PC, so we're stuck there).
right now we're running off of *lovely* Dell Precision 530s (yuk) and it takes FOREVER to render anything (and sometimes we even lose visual in After Effects/3DS Max).
agh. help

Fox cancels Arrested Development.
Arrested Development is without a doubt the absolute best thing on television right now. It is brilliantly intelligent and hysterically funny. This show is perfect. What the fuck is wrong with you people who STILL aren't watching it no matter how many times we tell you how amazing it is? YOU'RE the reason it's getting canceled. Grrrrr. Okay, okay, I know it's not your fault specifically, but goddamnit this sucks. I can't ever remember enjoying any show as much as I enjoy this one.
People on the Arrested Development forums are already yelling Boycott Fox. Hell, I love Malcolm in the Middle, but I'd give it up in a heartbeat if I actually thought it would ensure Arrested Development's future. This just seems like one of the stupidest moves Fox has pulled, and they've pulled some doozies. You can't recover from this one like you did Family Guy, Fox. If you miss a couple seasons before you realize what a huge fucking mistake you've made, the child actors will get older. This isn't like the WB where you can pass off someone who is 27 as someone who is 14. We know the difference. GAH.
This is fucking depressing.
To be honest, I can think of a couple very good reasons that it hasn't done as well as it should have.
- I have never seen an advertisement for Arrested Development either in print or on television. Word of mouth only gets you so far.
- It is incredibly self-referential, so if you haven't been watching it from the beginning, you'll miss a lot of the jokes. But anyone I've watched it with who was coming to it in the middle still loved it.
- And this is the biggest one. It's intelligent. Most of America isn't, so nobody gets it. "Huh? I thought this was that new reality show where they redecorate prison cells."
So not that it'd do any good at this point, but I've got Season One on DVD. If we invite you over to watch a couple episodes (and we feed you), would you promise that if you like the show, you'll finally program it into your damn TiVo? It takes 15 fucking seconds. How hard is that? Really?

Well, I don't think this counts as an ad since I am not selling anything:
Advertising is an insult to the intelligence of all of us. We are expected to, and many of us do, buy products based on 30-second snippets that say very little about why a certain product is good.
...
Corporate advertisements on public property are endorsements of whatever is being advertised. How can our government possibly endorse the practices of corporations such as McDonalds, which purchased advertising space on subway cars in Washington DC? Could we perhaps personify a corporation? McDonalds has unfair labor practices, and promotes unhealthy eating. Maybe we could replace the images on the subway with a slave owner eating red meat and cheese. Maybe then people viewing the ads would see what is really being shown to them.

Try this for some time wasting.
It takes 20 images from googles image search, you have to guess the word that pulled the images.
