Wahoo!
I got a package in the mail today sent by Wilf Holloway. Inside was a photocopy version of the book Winning Chess Psychology, Volume 2 (sent by the author himself all the way from Germany). Needless to say that I am quite lucky to be in possession of this and also needless to say that I am quite excited. I can't wait to look it over.

I still love the preamble to the EULA:
"The licenses for most software are designed to take away your freedom to share and change it. By contrast, the GNU General Public License is intended to guarantee your freedom to share and change free software--to make sure the software is free for all its users. This General Public License applies to most of the Free Software Foundation's software and to any other program whose authors commit to using it. (Some other Free Software Foundation software is covered by the GNU Library General Public License instead.) You can apply it to your programs, too."
That is all...

so my next question is along the lines of what to install initially... i am sure i can get my hands on a copy of the new windows home server, but i was thinking i might try out the ubuntu home server instead... if that works. which this guy says it does... so there's that...
either way, i'm agreeing with all of you that RAID should be a part of the configuration...

I live in Bolton Hill now. I saw a little promotional vehicle whilst walking to the Hopkins shuttle that takes me from Penn Station to work researching the effects of cancer drugs on people who have gastro-intestinal and/or pancreatic cancer. I opted not to smoke this morning. See...I'd smoked for like 6 years and then quit for about 5 years and now I am like...WTF..should I or shouldn't I? Bah well...let's get back to the topic of xohm for high speed mobile internet devices. I'm interested. I'm almost excited. I tried it out on their laptops, but not on the nokia device because that had been stolen.

Hulu has a run of the mill "cop story with a twist" called Life... cop serves time in jail, gets exonerated, goes back to work... anyways, the week's episode is "fallen woman" about a dead woman wearing wings who people thinks is an angel...
just funny, because they pause over a comic at one point:

the whole thing is kind of amusing, especially since i'm reading that other story... i haven't been able to find if that is the same cover, but i'm working on it...

One sure sign that the people are complacent and we are fucked - Where are the dead CEOs? Why isn't Dick Fuld strung up from a Lamppost with Barney Frank's cock in his mouth? Come on you pussy's Its the only way you will ever free yourselves? Why hasn't anyone found Mayo Shattook and roasted his ass while nailing his balls to a picnic table? You idiots are too busy fighting over which phony populist or faux conservative from the corporate party is going to win to make good use of your 2nd amendment rights and make a real decision! For 2008 vote dead CEO (or realestate agent, mortgage broker, MBA, investment banker, annuity sales men ect.).

Baltimore is, apparently, still prone to bank robberies...
what's interesting to me is that he got away with it (for a little while), and made $6,000... i was under the impression that it was pretty unlikely you'd even get out of the bank these days.
not that i'm thinking about it, mind you... hehe

Dear People on Foot,
would you PLEASE get the FUCK out of the road when you're walking down the street? What the hell do you think that 5 foot wide stretch of concrete on the other side of the curb is for? You're much less likely to die from an overdose of beige bumper that way...
Thank you,
Ben

Anyone else hating the new layout of iGoogle? It's now tabbed on the left side taking up more room and you can no longer, in one click, expand and contract your feeds. I want my space back! Gimme back my inch on the left Google.

I hadn't heard anything until today about Make It Right, a fund to help build houses for people who lost theirs in Katrina... they're just over 1/2 way to 150 homes, at about $150K each...
This is pretty cool, in my opinion. Though one reason we may not have heard about it is because it doesn't have any political aspirations... hehe

How many of you little GenY limp wristers are ready to spill blood for the future of your republic. As in marching on the capital enmasse with anything you can find. Shoot to kill anything wearing a suit or a flag pin.The shit is about to hit the fan with the blatant violation of posse comitatus and redeployment of US troops through Northcom this month. Expect to see them guarding resources like your local grocery store as Paulson declare force majeure sometime between now and early December.

With an avid hunting community and 2.5 guns per man woman and child in the US, the strategy should be easy to implement. The scoring scheme could be as follows:
Hunt down and execute, with pics of beheading posted to Twitter: assailant gets to pocket 10% of the executive's estate; other 90% goes to the '08 Depression Restoration Fund.
Hunt down and impale, with video of the 1-7 day impalement posted to Youtube: assailant gets to pocket 60% of the executive's estate; other 40% goes to the '08 Depression Restoration Fund. Also gets to do the talk show circuit and on cover of Field & Stream.

So, I am kinda sorta in to comics, as many of you know... it started long long ago (for me) when I traded some of my GI Joes for a stack of x-men and other comics when i was in middle school. They weren't in great shape then, and 15-20 years in a bag hasn't made them really collectible, but you know how it goes... they still mean a lot to you.

Hey all, I have another question for you!
Ann took a LOT of pictures last week, and I'd like to make a DVD slideshow for her to take to her parents that they can watch on their TV. Has anyone done this? I've found ULead, which is at least well known, and can try that out, but i wanted to see if any one of you had done this before and have any experience and or a favorite app to use?
thanks!
