T-shirt slogan
by iceman at 08 July, 2005 - 7:46 AM
I was thniking of making a t-shirt out of an iron on transfer. What do you think would be the coolest slogan to put on a t-shirt?

I would like something geeky and hopefully dealing with unix. And Ill post a pic of me wearing it when im done!

My suggestion for a slogan is "If only ls -al worked on women"

Linux Raid
by iceman at 27 June, 2005 - 4:09 AM
Here is my problem.
I currently have redhat enterprise 3 and I want to use the new fedora core 4 for my server. My reasons for the switch is RHE3 doesnt have as good support as the fedora project does....some may dissagree but oh well.

I have a software raid on RHE3 and the /etc/raidtab file holds the config stuph for my riad. When I install fedora core 4 will my raid be seen or will I have to do something else to get it to work, or will I lose all my data?

Because Windows is not an option!
by iceman at 06 April, 2005 - 9:02 PM
Does anyone else have a problem with windows always dissconnecting from samba?

I have a samba share in linux and when I connect to it from linux it works flawlessly. If I connect to it in windows it becomes sooo flaky. I try to listen to music on the samba share to hear 10 seconds of a song then it says connection lost.

Any and all help would be apreciated.

Windows tech question of the week!!!
by iceman at 01 April, 2005 - 4:53 PM
Alrihght here is my dilema.

My dad disabled his monitor on his laptop(don't ask). This, in windows, sets a registry value agp440. Upon rebooting the computer the computer will not boot windows in any mode(regular, safe, command line, etc). The solution to this problem has two answers(that I know of).

Answer #1: Reset the windows registry without booting into windows.

Answer #2: Reset the admin password in windows.

Here is what I tried so far
- Used Knoppix STD to reset the registry/password. Did not work because Knoppix STD does not boot on the usb cd drive.
- Used a boot program (chntpw, a linux program) to change the admin passwd and it didn't work.
- Used login recovery to see that the admins password entry in windows is Administrator:500:unknown:unknown:::

** I need to either change the admin password or edit the registry so I can run the Recovery console off of a windows xp disc. It looks like there is no password on the admin account but when I get into the recovery console and I hit enter to tell it there is no passwd it tells me wrong passwd.

Please help! If this were linux there would be no problem.

Cherry OS is out!!! But don't get your hopes up.
by iceman at 12 March, 2005 - 9:08 PM
After thinking cherry os may be good, it turns out that the dude that made it just stole pear pc's code. And is selling it for $50. This was the warning for no one to buy it....since its already free and called pearpc. (I still havent tried it yet though)

On a side note I would like to comment that I gave up my mac at work the other day. OS X just started pissing me off way to much to use it. Good ole linux saved the day!

As a question. How do you delete programs in OS X?....I found out that i couldnt get rid of safari because it controlls the internet options. And deleting it would be bad.

Pentium 4 for sale
by iceman at 17 February, 2005 - 1:08 PM
I know I should probably ebay this but I figured that someone on this fourm may want/need a new processor.

I have a pentium 4 2.66 GHz
533MHz FSb
1MB L2 Cache

I bought this off of newegg for $174, I used it for all of 5 seconds, to find out that my motherboard was not compatable with 1MB L2 cache. Its past 7 days since I bought it so im kinda stuck with it. Id rather somone i know who will use it gets it then selling it up on ebay.

This is a retail processor so it does have a 3 years manufactuars waranty. If you buy it and it doesnt work ill refund your money. If you know anyone interested please leave a post or email me at:
milk3422 at invisibledefender.com <- where at ==@

I would really like to get about 150 for it, but if you give me a decent offer ill probably settle with that too. Or if you have something i want/ need we can trade. I just dont want to see a good processor go to waste.

terabyte of disk space
by iceman at 26 November, 2004 - 10:42 AM
Today I went to best buys at 5:30 Am to stand in line. I did this to get 7 hard drives that were each 160 Gb. And they only cost $30 after rebates :)

How awesome is that, a little over a terabyte of disk space for a little over $200.
