So um, iTunes just told me it can't read the contents of my iPod and that I should use the software updater to reset it to factory settings. Not even an attempt at fixing it, urgh.
I thought something was wrong when it didn't list the songs I had loaded it with last time, and when one of the playlists had a blank name with blank contents. So, some kind of corruption I suppose.
Now my question is, does anyone know of some kinda magic restoration tool? I have an app to completely back up the music from the pod to the HD, then back again, but god damn what a process to go through.. again.

So my mom got herself a new phone and gave me her old one to try out. Pretty crap Sony Ericsson Z200 but I've had my other one for so long I'll give it a trial period. Anyway, surfing around I stumbled onto some UK phone site, and this user review almost made my brain's failsafe switch go off:

I was visiting some japanese friends during the weekend and found a little wind-up radio in their kitchen. Apparently, their dad (who travels a lot) bought it at a japanese airport. Everything was as usually is with a radio on the front; an AM & FM switch, volume and tuning knobs, etc.
But on the back I found this odd little switch. What the hell does it do? Do I have to flick the switch if I'm not 'normal'?

So I just got an iPod (wheeeeee) and I'm busy throwing music onto it. But I have a lot of songs that lack ID3 tags, and that works against iTunes. So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any intelligent apps to handle this.
For example, I have an album by Hexstatic. None of the files have tags. I'd like to apply "Hexstatic" to the "Artist" property of the tag in every file, then have an app be smart enough to figure out that whatever comes after " - " which is the usual separator I use between artist name - song title, is indeed the song's title and add that to "Title" property of the tag in every file.
Phew. Hope someone followed that.

Recently the genuine king and queen of Sweden visited Namibia where my mom and dad are at. Dad works at the embassy, where he's the "chancellor". I believe that's the correct title. Highest 'ranking', so pretty much the ambassador.
Anyway, my parents recieved the royal couple before they set out on their own to some hunting lodge to meet the prince of Bavaria.

So, up at 6:45 AM, off to school. Long lecture, crappy lunch, some groupwork. Then a torturously long lecture, about half of which I picked up.
6 PM, finally time to head home, think I'll stop by the tobacconists in the 'galleria'/mall and get some snus. Friend and I do that, go to my busstation.
Friend: "Damn, my bus doesn't come for another 30 minutes, think I'll catch another bus."
So he starts walking back in the mall to the other side where there's more stations. I stand around trying to waste some time, turn my back on the mall.. *BANG! BANG!* I swing around..

No, have to pre-cache files for about 15 minutes. Alright, just.. c'mon now.. Noooo have to UPDATE IT FOR 40 MINUTES. But.. I just bought the game..? STFU, it told me.

So I'm _finally_ putting together a new system. Not a total badass setup, but anything's better than the one I have now.
I was about to order all the parts today when I noticed they'd raised the price of the 256MB sticks of RAM I was about to order, and it kind of broke my budget (must.. save.. money), but I found out the single 512MB stick costs less than two of the above, so I'm wondering which is better?
Also, should I play it safe at get two 120GB drives or a single 250GB? I've never had an HD crash on me *knocks on wood* but I'm still slightly paranoid, heh.

So I know we have a lot of ZiM fans on the site, and today I was googling around for Gir sounds when I came across this. Apparently it's Rikki Simon's (did Gir's voice and worked as color designer on Invader ZiM) blog. His wife and him are both artists and have a studio together, so that's what it really centers around, still some fun reading.

Deane Barker of Gadgetopia wrote this brief post about the Gates couple's charitable nature. Apparently a lot of people thought he was Bill Gates, and the post recieved a lot of comments from people asking for money for various causes. Quite an entertaining read.

Wow. What an annoying, funky, weird trip.
Recently I've been screwing around ("don't screw around, you're screwing around too much") with my computer. It's an aged P3 666MHz, 256 RAM, 20GB + 30GB harddrive, integrated sound (now using an ancient Aureal Vortex 1.0 card), nVidia TNT2 32MB.
So, I decided to mess with the video card.

Very interesting, very interesting indeed. A little quote should sum this up nicely:
"I heard, years ago, about a rule prohibiting the use of the flag in advertising for any means. I committed this to memory, but never looked it up. No one ever believed me when I mentioned it, because I couldn’t cite a reference for it.
I looked this up after seeing a link to this page, which compares the latest updates from Kerry’s and Bush’s blogs side-by-side (ingenious, if you ask me!). It ticked me off that Bush was using the flag, and I decided to find out whether my memory was correct.
It turns out that George W. Bush’s website is in violation of the United States Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 3. He owes $100, or thirty days in jail."

Ok, if you keep up with FARK like I do then you probably know about this guy, but in case you don't: he's been arrested 804 times (and counting). 98%ish percent of those arrests are for being drunk in public. Friggin' classic stuff I tell ya, and check out his 48 mugshots, my favorite of which is below.

Roughly 9½ hours remain of the year that was, at least here in snowy Sweden. Looking back, the year has been kind of.. lukewarm, with the exception of summer which was past boiling point.
How's your 2003 been?

Ok, this is kinda scary. Right now I'm obviously online, connected as usual, but not actually doing anything with the connection. No games running, no P2P going on, but the lights on my modem are still flashing like crazy. Something must be using my connection for something or other. Anyone know of any way to monitor what processes are using a connection?

So a friend of mine is going to NY (more specifically NYC, I'd think) in february and asked if I know of any cheap places to stay thereabouts. "Hells no," said I. "But I'm sure my 1337 network of contacts in the US do."
So, does anyone? I'm lookin' at you, Ralph.

So until we get FTP access back (ahem, ahem, Rich) I've been playing around in the EA/DTC store. Just for kicks I tested 2 designs today and.. well they seem to work. Keep in mind, these are not anything final and are fully changable. One thing that sucks is that you can't add more than one of the same product (i.e. only one white shirt with one design), but check out what we've got so far and gimme some comments.

1. The effects of cannabis on a web-based lifestyle.
2. "Fine Arts meets the Sims" A series of drawings from an isometric perspective, in the style of a computer game. The subject of each drawing is the image, or images, that created a popular cultural event. Historical events (like the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Lorraine Motel) are used interchangeably with fictionalized events (like the picnic scene from The Sound of Music)."
3. Einstein wrote this riddle this century. He said 98% of the world could not solve it. It's not hard, you just need to pay attention and be patient.

So I got delayed pretty heavily today on my way to work via the great public transportation we have have here. First a train was cancelled, then the second train was delayed, yadda yadda. But while on the second train, the driver actually informed all the passengers of the coolest deal they have which I had nearly forgotten about:
If you're 20 or more minutes late, the company pays for a taxi.

Ok, I don't have a link for this but just heard it on the news.
Since Christiania (a small village inside Copenhagen which has basically no laws on drug consumption, at least not soft drugs) is getting shut down and thus the selling of hasch will be stopped, the dealers are tomorrow going on a three day strike as they think drug users in Copenhagen will resort to harder drugs like heroin.
Pretty funny, but also damned good.

This coming week, the Earth will cringe.
While our planet's axis will change near the end of the week, resulting in equal length days and nights wherever you live on our fair globe, we too will most likely cringe. Cringe at what now seems to be an inevitable conflict, cringe at our leaders, and cringe at ourselves for what our race has become.

So this seems interesting:
"My thesis is an attempt to fill in the void in academic work about blogs. Previously in articles and commercial books published about blogs (Rebecca Blood's books and the O'Reilly book, for example), why we blog has been researched using personal experience, with a few indepth interviews, or by analyzing websites. None of these three ways can come close to providing as accurate a depiction of the blogging population - who we all really are, why we blog, and how we're using our blogs - as a survey."
Take the survey!

This is a pretty fuggin' cool idea: BookCrossing
Basically you first read a book, register it on the site and optionally record some journal entries to go along with it, then get some stickers off the site, slap those in the book, and finally 'release' the it (be it "forgetting" it in a coffee shop, leaving it on a bench, giving it to a friend, etc).
