Yes, today's shows are ridiculous...

but shows from yesteryear are just fantastic

BJ and The Bear episodes included such titillating titles as: Detective Finger, I Presume?, Bear Bondage, and my favorite: Intercepted Pass...

unfortunately, this awesome show is not on hulu.

This just in! Tineye.com, who's been ripping your photos?

So I've been playing around with tineye.com which has a database of over 700 million photos, which I'm assuming is still growing. The neat thing is that I can either link photos from the web with the cool firefox/IE pluggin that they have or upload photos that I've cataloged and see who else has them posted or has changed them.

This is quite amusing to me cause I used to spend a lot of time doing the photoshop fridays and comedy gold mines on somethingawful.com.

The Simple Dollar

I'm really liking this site - I'd heard of it before in passing, but hadn't gotten into it, until a few questions about the differences between a traditional 401k and the new Roth 401k came up.

The writing is, aptly enough, quite simple, and they lay out for you the ups and downs of things, and very easy to understand answers. Money has never been something I cared about having, but recently that's been changing (owning a house, planning for the future), and this site is proving very helpful, since i didn't get my accounting degree...

Problems with Chase's website

so, something i've been saying to myself a lot lately when thinking about technology, specifically interfaces, has been "could my mom use it?" that is - not only can she figure it out, but would it be intuitive enough that she would use it more than once. Now, my mom isn't exactly behind the curve, but her ability to change with new interfaces just is a lot less flexible than someone who has had less experience - basically her expectations are more hard coded than, say, a 12 year old's...

so it really pisses me off when I have a hard time with something, for example, adding a checking account to my list of accounts on Chase's website.

you can't really tell here, because it's just a picture, but in a WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) I made a "glassy, animated button", so that when you mouse over it, it glows a bit, and then when you mouse off, it fades back.
my button:

and when you mouseover it:

Listen, this is a big deal for me... I generally am TERRIBLE at this kind of thing, and even these ugly examples are a big leap for me...

I just realized that the Idiot up the hill from my property near where I do zombie target practice hasn't been there all year and a tree damn near took out the place. Rear deck is crumbling. General disrepair. He bought it in 2005 for 685K. Its listed for 529K with some small time local realtor that does mostly foreclosure sales. I think I will offer them 75K. It will make a nice tol shed + the extra acre and a quarter could come in handy. Asshole took all his firewood though. Anybody want some copper?
