The Modern Western

As an adult, who can look back upon things and form patterns, etc., I am now appreciative of why Unforgiven won so many awards… without it, the remake of 3:10 to Yuma and the OMFGWTFBBQ so awesome Assassination of Jesse James would not have been made (or they would, and they wouldn’t have been such awesome hot sauce…). I suppose, on a certain level, you could lump No Country in there, but I think that’s in its own mentally deranged world.
Now that this has happened, I want to see the remake of The Outlaw Josie Wales, or even better, movies of both Josie Wales books… because a) they were freakin’ awesome, and the books were much more aligned, thematically, with modern Westerns than with Westerns of our parents’ time. This isn’t to say that the spaghetti Westerns weren’t awesome… they were. I wouldn’t have visited the Gene Autry Museum of The West three times if I didn’t think so. I just want to see Josie Wales as dark a hero as the book made him out to be…

carry on…

Dear Facebook, I Give Up (as a developer)

You folks may or may not know that I've been running several Facebook apps for a couple years now.

Nine Inch Nails (6,767 users)
Marilyn Manson (3,686 users)
Final Fantasy (1,896 users)
The Smashing Pumpkins (856 users)
(I've also got one for Pat Metheny created at the request of a former employer, but I no longer keep it up to date. 947 users)

They're all actually running on the exact same code, but pulling different data based on which app the user is accessing. They're fairly simple. They let you check off items in your collection and/or your wishlist, which sends an update to your news feed and also lets you show off your collection or wishlist a couple different ways on your profile. They also provide news updates from google and other sources via Facebook Notifications.

I think it's time to shut them all off.

so I know i don't do this often, but i had to write this up somewhere... I just started using VS 2010, and I'm having an issue with adding a project reference to a WCF Service project... it works fine when i reference the project in another Class Library, but when i add the reference to the project, it doesn't work... just simply does not let me add the "using" in my service class...

i've tried a clean project, i've double checked my spelling... the intellisense even lets me add it, until i compile 1 time...

so weird...

so... if you read my Twitter/FB updates, skip to the next paragraph, for those of you not following life closely... my main desktop won't boot now - i'm getting the error "System Failed VGA Test", and from binging around (that's right...)
it's it's looking like my motherboard is the culprit. i already have a broken DVD writer (and 1 still working), and an older AMD 64 (Toledo) chip... and 2 GB of DDR 500 ram... and here is what I originally had/have...

i'm wondering which path i should go down for fixing this up?
